I’ll be amazed if he plays again this season. If he does it’s probably coz we’re desperate and we’ve rushed him.

I know, that's not the point I was making. My point was that some of the same people who are criticising Kane for not pulling out of that tackle are the same ones who are constantly moaning in the match threads about how Eriksen always pulls out of 50/50s. I was just pointing out the irony is all.

Ah cool, yeah I wouldn't criticise Eriksen for pulling out of 50 / 50s personally as he's not that type of player.

He does put himself around pitch though and when on his game applies pressure in other ways through positioning etc.

This season has been his worse league goals return as well - 17 I think? (this is pretty respectful, but just goes to show how good Kane is that it could be considered low for him).

A shame as he was actually prior to this getting more league goals in each season prior to this.

I think in general this season, although we're still in the mix it's been more of a grinding it out season and we haven't been able to consistently field our strongest eleven in the league - I hope next season we are able to field Dele - Eriksen (???) - Son a lot more consistently behind a fully fit Kane.

Thought struck me on Tuesday night, and apologies if someone else has said this here already.

Might this latest injury prove to be a tipping point that leads Pochettino to withdraw Kane into a deeper, Sheringham type role behind an out and out striker? With the latter having to cope with the hassle that comes from leading the line (being monstered by yobs like Fernandinho) while Kane pulls the strings from deep, a la the pass against Liverpool in the lead-up to the Sissoko chance?

Kane has frequently been described as half-Shearer, half-Sheringham. Due to the injuries, is he reaching a stage in his career where he needs to tailor his game?

Discuss. (If you can be bothered.)

Just think he’s got too much to offer at his relatively young age, that’ll happen eventually I’d imagine, but not till he’s at least approaching 30 imo.

Wouldn't dropping deeper mean he spends more time being monstered by yobs like Fernandinho? If Kane was up top, leading the line, for the whole game, he wouldn't be anywhere near Fernandinho. Likewise, he wouldn't have been sliding into a challenge with Delph and getting himself injured.

No way is it time for Kane to drop deeper IMHO. He should listen to Rooney who recently admitted he should have been more selfish and played as a #9 for longer. There's a reason most people in football consider Harry to be the most complete #9 in world football. No need to overthink this one.

Yes Kane is good at dropping deep and making clever passes but he still needs to be at the sharp end as much as possible for a good few years yet.

The ankle didn't bend much, not like last time, I reckon he just trod on a nerve. He will be back in 2 weeks max

I'm no doctor, but despite that the ankle did not bend all the way, he still got Delph's weight on his foot. Could cause a good sprain imo

Anyways, I sure like the rest of the lot on here, that Kane's injury ain't serious and that he'll be back for the 2nd leg of CL

I was thinking this as well. Poch started him off this season playing more of the withdrawn role. I think he was trying to protect him after the WC. H is an amazing passer, some of his passes are superb to set up play as he has brilliant vision and I think that Sheringham role is where he will end up eventually.

He's a fucking goal machine like Roy Race ffs! Get him as close to the box as possible and keep giving him the ball!

Nothing timescale-wise yet about the ankle? Couldn't find anything, any ITK anywhere?

Son is a better player when he is given freedom to roam around in the last 3rd. Thats what made him score loads of goals when harry was absent. So he shpuld be given the false 9 role rather than being put on the left. He can play together with lucas in a more fluid 4132 formation, with sissoko, eriksen and alli behind them.
I kind of agree but often when he starts up top with Kane he's not roaming and not involved enough. It's usually Kane dropping off and Son has to almost do less in order to be available as a lead striker. Alongside Llorente he actually did better because Llorente plays furthest forward (he's a lot less mobile than Kane) with Son able to drop off more and get more involved. So for me if he plays a false 9 we would be better off with Llorente up top, if not I would play Son as a support attacker on either wing so he can run with the ball. I would worry if he was the focal point up top because he doesn't get involved enough. So when Kane returns I think he needs to be one of the 3 in a 4231 becaus ehe doesn't work as well in a 2 with Kane.

It is interesting although, his deeper role. I think his game is changing, he is developing and I think its superb. Cause now we know he is goalscoring machine and also great playmaker. Maybe he is doing it too much but IMHO its just a matter of time when he will find the right balance. He is stil 25 guys. In 3 years he will be like super f*cking hiper briliant hell of a striker that can do everything - long shots, headers, penalties, passes. It's just a matter of time when he will start banging in free kicks. And he never complains on the pitch. He is the best player we had in 21st century and probably since 90s and I love him.
