Extending contracts on players that want to leave.
Granit Xhaka is a good example. The Arsenal midfielder wanted to leave and the club wanted him to go. But nobody was willing to meet the asking price and so Arsenal extended his contract, which was due to expire in 2023, to protect his value.
Comparing Kane to Xhaka who was, and lets be clear, fucking useless, is not a good example. We rely on Kane as he is one of the best strikers in the world. Xhaka is a joke.

Either way, it is imperative he is not booed in the stadium on Sunday.

Hopefully something is sorted before Sunday even if it's some kind of statement from the club. Even if not I certainly won't be booing but I'm afraid certain sections of supporters will...
Best case is a few rousing choruses of 'one of our own' if he is on the pitch at some point...

I'm hoping Paratici was part of the conversations and has somehow convinced Harry of his vision. If this is the case, then maybe H is happy to give us one more season and if it looks like we're building something exciting and he sees progression then maybe he will give us another after that but if not I imagine this is the last season we will see H in a Spurs shirt.

This is mostly opinion but if talks have gone well, I would be very surprised if Paratici hasn't worked some of his magic and charm on him.

Do we have an option to extend Kane's contract?

So, if he has a reworked contract with a big bonus and release built in.. Was it ever about trophies?
For me, he's had his turned and has been the gf who sucked off the rich guy down the road. Kissing that mouth again will never be the same again no matter the smiles of reconciliation. I hope the Mancs ante up now and Kane leaves.
He's just not one of our own anymore.

It's a great example, but you have not understood they point they were making. The poster was pointing out that Arsenal extended a player's contract (as suitors would not meet their price) to protect his value (even if he is a crap player in comparison to Kane). Kane's value starts diminishing next summer as he enters the last two years of his contract. If he has a new 5 year contract his value is protected. It's a very simple concept and something Levy has been a master of executing as our chairman. Eriksen being the only player who came close to running his contract down.

I don't have much in the way of detail on this but am told that talks went well. What that means for his future, I don't know.

One thing for certain is that Charlie is way out of his depth, and is causing a lot of the problems. That does not excuse Harry's extended break though, he's far from blameless in all of this. It is thought though that had he of had strong representation most of this would have been avoided.
If Kane signs a new contract we should frame it, hang it around his neck and parade him before the City game with Daniel Levy dressed like a nun walking in front of him ringing a massive bell and shouting:

This is the key question. Can Levy (and Paratici and Nuno) look Harry in the eye and convince him we are going to win trophies. Signing players like Romero, and hopefully Martinez, certainly helps.

A new contract is a way of saying 'we've made up and are moving forwards together with commitment' (even if there is a release clause). It removes negativity around the first team.

Just imagine, we're signing players like Romero AND both Kane and Son sign new 4 year deals? What is not to like?

@Blockbuster you can stick your creative rating where the sun don't shine. If you think I'm making it up at least have the balls to say so. Seriously sick to death of pricks calling us liars and hiding it behind the creative rating.

A lot back tracking going on in this thread I see….?
Not by all of us.

Been around long enough and worked in enough teams to know about politics that come with it but the club had no benefit in Letting fans think that Harry effectively refused to train for a week unless we are selling him as the club can portray him as a bad'un. From everything being said we will sell but only at a massive price which is pretty unrealistic for anyone to meet (that's not a dig at the price as I think 160m+ is easily justifiable for us to value him at but not for someone else to pay) so if that's the case and he's not sold then it's just more bad press for the club.

This does smell of backtracking and an attempt by both sides to soften their stance possibly after a recognition from Harry's camp that they have played this terribly and that city will not bid anywhere near the required amount.

For me his rep is tarnished and there's no way back from that but couldn't blame any spurs fan who adopts pool fans approach to Gerard and wants to forget or downplay his attempts to move as both symbolised so much to the club's /fans.

It’s only one person in a sea of hundreds who appreciate it. Don’t let it get to you.

If he had strong representation he'd probably still be in Florida waiting for us to lower our valuation.

This again?

We had a lot of this in the New Manager thread and I had to get a bit tasty with the banstick. Having checked, he's been at it more than once so we can do without him or his trolling.

Once again, if anyone else wants to get clever with the ratings, you go ahead, do what you have to do. And we'll do likewise.

I think this is a two way street, can Harry look Nuno in the eye and convince him he will give 100%. The sad reality is he will only stay and extend his contract because Man City didn’t want him badly enough to pay the price.

Not too sure I'm quite so ready to forgive as some on here, given his behaviour since the cup final at the end of last season it's exceptionally clear that he doesn't want to be at this club and I'm not really interested in a player that suddenly changes that tune just because he sees other options dwindling.

I certainly wouldn't be giving him a new contract and I think shifting blame onto his idiot brother is a bit too convenient considering H is a grown adult who has been very complicit in these dumbass attempts to engineer a move to Man city.

Personally the best he should get is to re-up his existing contract with a high release clause and frosty reception at the matches if he deigns to stay with us.
