Was just about to say that we've already got an excellent free kick taker, but not from that range!

Doubt he'll score another like that in his career though...

I was at the game v Nuremburg a couple of weeks back. This guy was a complete stand out. Absolutely miles better than anyone else including our own VdV.

Right footed played on the left that day, very quick, very tricky, good delivery, strong and a fantastic shot. Scored a cracker that day as well.

Hamburg are a massive club but i'd be very surprised if he was still there next season.

20, Turkish international with 9 goals and 3 assist in 23 starts this season. Has been linked with a whole host of top clubs (At Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal etc).

Hamburg are perilously sitting just one place above the relegation zone (in between Stuttgart and Nurnberg), so I suspect the vultures will be ready to swoop in for their better players if they go down. Calhanoglu is one of them, as are the likes of Tah and Badelj (Hamburg); Timo Werner (Stuttgart); and Drmic (Nurnberg).

He's a great young player and his improvement from the start of the season to now has been remarkable. That indicates a good work rate and desire, and I think he would be a good signing. That said, I'm not entirely sure if he'd be suited to the EPL.

Hopefully they get relegated and we snatch him and VDV.

I can't even begin to think how my Dad is going to pronounce his name should we sign him.

Thank you for weighing in with your input, but I'm curious as to why you feel this way? I know nothing of the player, so genuinely curious. I've been hoping that we'd start giving more looks at Bundesliga players, as the play there is far more similar to the Prem than La Liga or Serie A.

Just think he's not that strong and he's not exceptionally quick. That's not to say that all players have to be one or the other to make it in the prem, but sometimes players who are good technically but don't have particularly good physical attributes can struggle, ie Sahin, who I think is fairly similar.

In terms of coming to us as a team, he plays CAM, CM, and occasionally RM, but none of those positions are of desperate need (assuming Lamela is still alive). If we were to deploy him as a CM in a 3 man midfield, he would be competing with Holtby and Eriksen for the creative slot I would have thought, and I doubt we'd have three players of that quality all in rotation over one spot.

Nice, thanks much. It seems he may have the same weaknesses and be of the same ilk as Lamela then, and for more of that I just don't see the need.
