I loved Ronaldo. The real Ronaldo!

His statement about there being "Croatians here" just underlines the importance of Corluka. I know it sounds daft, but I think as long as Corluka is a regular, Modric will be happy here. He's said before that him and Corluka always dreamed of playing for the same club, and now they do.

It's not as if Corluka is a bad player (well...he got my vote in the RB thread). Obviously Niko will be off, which is unfortunate but understandable, but if Modric is enjoying London, and has a good friend at the club, he might be less inclined to jump ship.

Without intending to start anything with this, I still feel that we're not seeing the best of him due to playing him in the middle.

His comments contain the fatal caveat "anything can happen in football". I think it's foolish to underestimate that. I'm not saying that means's he's leaving. Just that anything is possible in football so I won't be settled on the Modric debate until 1st September comes and he's either here or gone.

Build a statue of him outside whl, thatl show him how much we love him. We need to do anything to keep this guy, even if it means givign Charlie a contract to 2020 its worth it

He is the absolute core of our team. His attitude is spot on, he's down to earth and as we know pure class. HE MUST NOT BE SOLD.

Slighty concerning (although not suprising) that he signed a 10 year contract at Zagreb knowing full well that he wasn't going to stay that long. Makes me twitchy.

I always make this point and it normally gets responese like "he is a big boy now", but you really cannot ignore the fact that having his best friend at the club makes a huge difference to him

You and Harry both. But he didn't have to sign the 6 year deal. He made an interesting point about having more freedom down the left flank..

I noticed that, but feel that just means that even if he decides to leave (or the club decide to sell him) after two more seasons, we will have the protection (he specifically meantions the benefit of the club having this) of 3 years remaining on his contract. And, being intelligent and down-to-earth, he will realise that he will still only be 27 :)shrug: 28), with plenty of top level footballing years ahead of him, and the satisfaction of knowing he showed the club some loyalty (which is obviously important to him). Besides, if we are winning things/in the CL after that second season, he might see nowhere better to play his football.

Honestly, reading that, I think that unless Dan Levy decides to sell, we should look forward to seeing him for next season, and, if we successfully qualify for CL, the next season, as well.

'Arry...is that you?

"I think it is important in football to make a commitment to a club. I think the relationship with the club is important. That’s my view on these things and that is why I have signed a long contract here, too. My only motivation is to enjoy my football. Not the money."

Great article on Luka

Put aside your hatred of the Daily Mail, even if just for one day.

The Mail has done a fantastic two-page spread interview with our Luka. His humility and sincerity come across strongly and he talks about loyalty and his closeness to his family and is portrayed here as a man with his feet firmly on the ground, as well as displaying his massive talent on the football pitch.

We are so lucky to have Luka - I so hope he doesn't get lured away.

Great interview. Modric comes across as a class pro. If we don't make the signings to match his ambitions then we have no right to keep him. He deserves to be at a club striving to win titles not just qualify for the champs league. Hopefully he'll give us another season to prove we can do that.

Completely agree with this, as they are best mates. Corluka is a very good squad player, i can think of very few, if any other prem teams who have a player of his quality who isn't a regular starter for their club. Corluka and Walker, with Kaboul as a third option should be our RB players for next season.

He is a nice guy - what's particularly telling is the 10 year contract that allows us to make money off him should he move. He has at least reassured us that he won't do a Tevez/Sol.

As for whether he's gonna stay, i don't think its really in his hands. Player transfers are more financially driven than anything else, and while Luka likes it here he has no reason to not go to a better club with better players should we agree to sell.

And an equally interesting one about preferring it in the middle.

Quality player wherever he is on the pitch and long may he stay.

That bit a about Ronaldo made me laugh.
But you're right about Corluka, I remember when he signed, Luka said something about Corluka being his best friend and it helps having a fellow compatriot at the club. And I think Corluka is our best RB anyways. So no need to sell him. Shame about Niko. Maybe we'll have to replace him with another Croatian.
