If we’re still considering Orban then he’s a Kane replacement imo and my theory is the following:

- Orban has already played in Europe and has been thriving. So he would represent a more advanced striker in terms of development whilst still being a wonderkid.

- Orban would come in and compete with Richarlison for the striker spot.

- Veliz would go on loan in Europe somewhere to gain more experience.

- I would suggest the club also have doubts about Richarlison’s long term quality and so are looking for 2 quality young strikers, hoping at least 1 of them proves good enough to become our main striker over the next couple of years.

Yeah, if true, and we moved for him, that would be proper and insane succession planning.

I'm not mad at trying hoover up all the good prospects at key positions. It gives you an extra lottery ticket to hit it big. Obviously not all of them will pan out but having these extra attempts always help. Especially if they can get some play time out on loan.

A strategy that has huge upside.

One player could become a huge asset which means the spend on the others is not an issue as you are likely better off.

Difficult for a club like Tottenham to pull off cause we need to be quailfying for CL.

We have taken a few punts over the last few years.
Foyth
Sanchez
Clarke
Sessegnon
Gil
Rodon

But its been a bit of a mess as either we had a crap plan for them or overpaid for them.

For example, Foyth should have gone out on loan to Europe immediately or at least stayed in Argentina to get more experience as he had such a little amount.

Id also argue that our decision making on who to choose has been poor.

I like Sessegnon but his qualities did not determine a 30m player.

We probably should have passed on that.

But if we are targetting players based on data and fit, then giving them a decent chance/plan we will have more successes.

.....and I would also add that is why we have had such a serious lack of interest in our failed signings.

Big money on players who have only shown promise. (Sessegnon, Ndombele)

yeah, our past hit rate has been horrible. Forgot Clinton N'jie on that list hahahah.

But yes, if it's data driven and are fine having the players go on loan for a year or two in Europe or wherever to really push on.

Foyth is a great example as he was handled pretty poorly on our end.

Hopefully the work done by Gabianni can really help alleviate on the misses.

If Orban all of a sudden came, then I would say Harry was 100% off. As I said in the Véliz thread, I don't believe his arrival has any impact on Harry leaving. But if Orban arrived as well, there is no way we would have 4 players competing for 1 spot.

This is my feeling. VdV and Veliz is kinda normal for us, despite all the noise…Tapsoba and Orban less so. They’re the two (or alternatives) to really keep an eye on imo.

For a 21 year old, Orban has just played his 1year of professional football or any football.
Half a season in Norway, Half a season in Gent.
Veliz has actually played more than double games at 19, compared to Orban.

Orban is still very raw himself. But good thing is, he is able to adjust faster. But there's no guarantee he will be great success when he starts playing in PL

Was on bench last night and didn't come on in their Europa League qualifier. Hard to read too much into it as Gent were pretty already qualified after big first leg win so hard to know if he was left on bench as didn't need him or because a transfer is in works. Suppose we'll only know which one it is in a few weeks depending on what happens.

I think we’d loan one, if not both, back out. Veliz we might just want a look at first before packing him back off on loan, potentially even back to the club we bought him from.

even Kane commits (which is unlikely), we still need signings like Veliz/Orban as succession planning for the coming 3-5 years since Kane and Son are 30/31 already

If Kane leaves, as is likely, Richarlison is expected to take his place in the team centrally. Tottenham also want to ensure they have a deal in place for a young forward to offer competition and are ready to step up their interest in Gift Orban, the 21-year-old Gent striker, in addition to signing Alejo Veliz, the 19-year-old Rosario Central striker.

Orban scored 20 goals in 22 games for Gent last season after joining the Belgian club in January. Spurs believe a deal can be agreed for around £20 million. Orban was playing for Stabaek in Norway’s second tier last year before joining Gent for £3 million, going on to play against West Ham United in the Europa League Conference league quarter-finals. He scored five goals in the European competition.

Tottenham have struck a deal to sign Veliz for £13 million plus add-ons but have been discussing whether he stays on loan at Rosario until January.
