He looks great, but should it not have been him or Veliz?

Otherwise we should be looking at a promising youngster that can play on the wing shouldnt we?

Don’t get wrong - he looks great. But my guess is the opportunity cost is too high to just 30m on someone when we have Veliz, Parrott and Scarlett coming through. My guess is he’s going to better than all of them, but we’ve kind of made our bed
I’d prefer us to loan out Veliz if we sign Orban. Veliz seems less ready to go for our new system, even though he has more experience playing top flight football.

A loan to another PL or La Liga club would probably do him good.

This is where I felt Marcos Leonardo May have been a better hit for the ‘but end loan out’ scenario, rumoured to be lower outlay. That said, the club may see Orban as closer to bring ready, and with Kane now looking like staying for the next season, but still possible he leaves for free next summer, having someone like Orban (or Leonardo) secured this summer and out on loan to develop, ready to drop straight back in next summer does at least look like we have some contingency planning.

The more I see this kid the more I think he is very special. Yes he is a bit raw but fucking hell he is a goal scoring machine.

The progress this kid has made in only 18 months of professional football, coming from an African amateur team you can barely even google, is simply astonishing.
How good can he become under coaches at the highest level?

Sign him and loan him out would be ideal

somewhere like reims (who need a striker after balogun left) would be easy to do I’d imagine.
only question is whether their style of play under will still suits us.

But it would be perfect to see him in either the bundesliga or Ligue 1 to gauge his readiness and provide another step up.

caveat to this, as @Ghost Hardware says, this signing should not impact our cb signing.
Eg signing orban and perr schuurs wouldn’t be great if it meant we’d lost out on Tapsoba/Silva/Laporte

This kid is incredible. You can't let him onto a football pitch without him scoring. They probably have to remove the goalposts during training when they do other training like rondos and stuff, else he'll keep putting the ball in the net.

Without Kane going, you’d expect our budget is not huge now. So I don’t see Tapsoba happening, more likely Schurr or Satolo at £20-30m, then a replacement for Hojbjerg, Douglas Luiz was the name in the media yesterday, which is another £40m if the article was to be believed. Will we find another £30m for Orban?? As succession planning it makes sense, but it would mean a fairly big outlay this summer.
I still wouldn’t mind another wide forward, and that’s where Ansu Fati perhaps loan with option may make sense, but find that unlikely. Maybe now Kane is staying Richarlison will be used as the WF backup.

I'd rather not replace Hojberg. We have plenty of depth in this area. As is we're going to really struggle to keep everyone happy unless we have a really bad season with injuries.

Completely agree with this. We seem obsessed with swapping out like for like, but in reality, we need to take a much more holistic assessment of where there are more problematic holes in the squad. For instance: we're still obviously short at CB, where at the moment, we're relying on VDV getting used to the league really quickly, or we'll end up with the same shit show we had last year. And god knows what we'd look like if Romero got injured.

Same goes for Orban and whether to get him really - feels like there are bigger problems

Would be great to sign and get a prem loan to somewhere like Bournemouth, probably more likely a European loan (obviously we need to do the tricky part of signing him first)

Maybe, but I think a lot depends on the state of Bentancur’s recovery. Playing two CM’s we were ok for numbers, but playing 3 this year we will beed additional numbers. On the assumption Hojbjerg goes, and Ndombele doesn’t make the cut, we’ll be starting the season with Bissouma, Skipp, Sarr, Maddison and Lo Celso. Five players may be enough in truth, but the media speculation and ITK suggest Ange is looking at adding a body there.
Douglas Luiz would make sense. Can play as a 6 or 8, knows the league, and would be familiar with Emerson and Richarlison, so should settle quickly.
Theres a lot of moving parts, but I’m reality, of the positions outstanding, I’d have CB at No1, then trade off between CM and additional forward depending on who stays and goes out of Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Perisic etc.
You could look at Orban as some succession planning for next season, and also able to fit in as a depth option in wide areas if he stays due to his dynamism.
I should caveat that by saying if Perisic stuck it out, I wouldn’t be against that, as I feel his experience could be valuable, and he seems to be embracing life back as a winger under Ange.

Well if Bentancur can't come back and Ndombele leaves then that may change things but as they stand today we have the 5 you mentioned plus Bentancur and Ndombele and Hjoberg and Devine (who looks ready to be a squad player).

That's 9 for 3 positions.

Surely ndombele is being sold soon. Why the hell did we turn down offers for him. Even if it was 10m euros

Yes, I was working on the assumption Hojbjerg goes to Atletico, Devine gets a loan, and Ndombele has allegedly been made available for transfer. Five may well be enough to see us through till Bentancur comes back, given we don’t have as many games this year.
