The Club are delighted to report that Gary Mabbutt is now making a successful recovery from an emergency operation to cure a circulation blockage in his left leg.

Our former captain was admitted to Kings College Hospital, London, for a peripheral artery bypass operation and will remain in hospital for a two-week recovery period.

Everybody at the Club would like to wish him a full and speedy recovery, while Gary himself would like to thank his dedicated medical team and staff at Kings College.

Pretty sure it is diabetes-related, given his troubles with it in the past. These kind of sequelae is very often the outcome of longterm diabetes

I'm a diabetic, only 5 years in and the age of 57. I have a good GP who is very good with this branch of medicine but just last week he reckoned that I would be taking insulin - as opposed to tablets - in a few years.

His book "AGAINST ALL ODDS: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF GARY MABBUTT." is a great read,it has some storys about his problems and what he had to do to enable him to be a player.

thanks parklane have read against the odds years ago will have to dig it out for another read.

I enjoyed playing sunday league a few years back and it became a problem getting my arse out of bed for work monday morning because i was aching and tired. For mabbs to do training and matches for as long as he did when diabetic knowledge and treatment was far inferior in that time shows what a great man he is
