so a lot of ITK's think we are already looking for a replacement and now this story , anyone still think he'll be here next season if we don't qualify for the CL ?

BTW I thought we were playing Swansea at home

Real Madrid are set to step up the chase for Tottenham Hotspur talisman Gareth Bale and are preparing a £56.6million bid for him. According to The Express, the club from the famed Santiago Bernabeu have been eager to lure the Welshman away from White Hart Lane and will up their efforts with the prospect of some of their biggest stars departing next summer. Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas recently rejected the notion that Bale would leave north London in the near future but admitted it would be impossible to stop him if certain things came to pass, as that was the nature of the business they operated in.

However, Villas-Boas may not be too pleased by a report from Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo, which claims Real Madrid are preparing a €70million bid for the summer and los Blancos believe it will be enough to get their man. Bale had been in sensational form for Tottenham this season, scoring six goals in 14 Premier League appearances and five of those in the last nine, but a recent hamstring injury has halted that progress momentarily. Bale is expected to be have recovered in time for Spurs’ next league fixture, in Wales against Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.

Can we close this fucking thread. Bale won't be going anywhere this window, end of. So there's no point discussing it.

There's no doubt about his eventual departure from Spurs, but when he leaves I hope that it's 1) for a shitload of money, 2) to a foreign club 3) done with class (i.e no Modric or Berbatov style transfer) and 4) with a good replacement already lined up.

No current player could replace him today. Dempsey and Siggy aren't wingers and Townsend just isn't anywhere near Bale's capacity and class.

There's no way Real can afford both Bale and Falcao. They are reportedly preparing (I presume meaning that someone is checking under sofas as we speak) a 60 million Euros bid.

They can if they sell a couple players at the same time.

I doubt they will have enough to generate the 100+ million they would need for both, particularly when the Spanish government has cracked down on football finances in Spain (I know Real get special dispensation) but they also have injuries to Benzema and Higuin so their priority would be to get a striker in, and I suspect Falcao is top of their agenda.

I have a feeling that there will be loads of these stories until at least the end of the summer window.
If they loose Ronaldo they almost couldn't afford not to buy Bale.

A 56.6 million bid? Very specific, must be true.

... Because 70m = £56,6m.

And sadly, I can't see Levy turning down such a bid in the summer (if it indeed does happen). Bale won't be with us forever, it's just sad to think this might be his last season in a Tottenham-shirt. Hopefully Real spunks all their money on Falcao and we get to the CL, then we might have him one more year.

I dunno, I think with close to £60m to spend we could afford a bloody good replacement.

It's obvious to anyone with half a brain Bale would be off if we don't get Champions League football, makes perfect sense to be looking for his replacement.

I don't think it matters whether we qualify for the CL, Bale will be off next summer.

For the sake of argument (although I'd like to dismiss this completely) I'm not sure who we could realistically add to even begin to attempt to "replace" Bale.

James Rodriguez of Porto is frickin awesome. However, he's already rumored to be valued at or over 30m, and the Manchesters are already sniffing around. Not going to happen in my mind.

Atsu could be an option as he's a winger that can play on both sides. I'm not sure, though. He's too much like Lennon to potentially play two of them. He's got pace, dribbling, and creative on the ball, but his end-product often lacks. Atsu and Lennon on the same pitch might equate to about 6-8 goals a year between the two until the guesswork of Atsu turning into a more clinical finisher (once again, guesswork) happens.

Ahmed Musa is a pretty under-appreciated guy who plays for CSKA Moscow. Great pace, great final product in regards to his finishing and distribution. He's DUAL-footed which is growing more and more rare. 20 years old and in 18 league matches this year he has 8 goals and 5 assists.

Aubameyang: Ah yes, my mancrush. He already plays CF, LW and RW for St. Etienne. He scores, he's tall, he's creative on the ball, and I think his distribution from the wings is one of the most underrated parts of his game. He scores goals, he's 23, and while he doesn't have the ceiling that Bale does, he can provide depth across all three positions on the front. THIS MAKES TOO MUCH FUCKING SENSE.
