I won´t argue argue against Son´s level of popularity: he is HUGE. And as we Spurs fans know; it´s hard to be more popular than "one of our own". But he´s not Chinese, and he´s not playing in the Chinese league.

I´m just saying that Bale was a global superstar. He´s been a decisive force in 3 CL finals. There is no one even close to his stature playing in China or Asia at the moment. Former chelski Oscar? Nope.

And at 30 he´s not an old has been and has the potential - if he´s mentally up for it - to be a dominant force on Messi/Ronaldo -level in that league.

To be fair though, Vincent Jansen could be a Messi or Ronaldo in that league.

I don’t think Bale or his agent are doing anything wrong here. Imagine your work gave you a massive raise, and a long term contract, you’re one of their top performers and then suddenly a new line manager comes in and wants you gone. You’ve not done anything to warrant the sack, and they aren’t making you redundant. Why should you have to take a pay cut to go and work at a smaller firm?

If anything, Bale has a decent case for constructive dismissal.
Could quite easily say the same about what Bale and Barnett did in getting Ancelotti the boot a few years back. I wouldn't say Bale is in the wrong as such, but the amount of people I've seen acting like he's been an angel and completely innocent in all of this is mad.

So is the amount of people who seem to think they know intimately what the bloody hell is happening. We don't have a clue who is in the wrong here - not a notion. If you believe Bale is being a shit, it's because you're choosing to. If you believe it's Zidane, again it's because you choose to. We have no idea what the reality is.

(I'm in broad agreement with you btw)

Ok, remove all identifiers and details from this.

Company A offers individual X one million pounds per week for a year, to basically do what you are already doing but in an easier environment, after which you can practically do whatever you like.

That would be hard to turn down. Honestly, how could anyone really justify turning down an opportunity like that? A year from now he will be able to pick up a new contract without having to ever worry about wages again.

I don't envy him having to choose.

dont know who is being petulant and who isnt but I know RM owe Bale somewhere around 90 million pounds. to think he should just let them off the hook and walk away is nuts. nobody here has ever been asked to give up 90 million pounds but I imagine Id say something like "fuck that".

Striking similarity to our situation with Toby. Nobody really has any idea what's going on.

I’ve just got a feeling this may be a Levy special. No ITK has denied we are interested and the way this is playing out, Madrid are going to have to take a hit by contributing to his wages.

I think if we can pull it off, along with the other signings, we can go for the title.
There’s no way Bale is coming to Spurs.

Poch likes a “project” and his current project is building a team that can challenge for the league title and Champion’s League in the next 5 years. Just look at the age of the players we are signing.

Levy is also a long term planner (look at the investment in the stadium and training ground). He’s careful with how he spends the club’s money.

So there’s just no way that the club will splurge a fortune on a 30 year old player.

I loved watching Bale when he was at Spurs. Part of me is would love to see him back in the team. But part of me doesn’t want the memories of all he did at Spurs sullied.

And I’m very sorry to excited by the players who are coming in.

I can't see how people can argue for the opposite. Because he signed the contract, Real owe him that money, simple as

True, won’t happen but true. But defence concerns me, but that’s for another thread.

Nobody is saying he should just walk away and go and work in Starbucks on minimum wage.

And it’s not quite as simple as just giving up his right to £90m, because in leaving he’d still be earning a bucket load with whatever club he’d be at next over the same time frame. Just not as much.

But if earning less in a better environment would make him happier and more fulfilled then suddenly giving up money doesn’t necessarily seem as crazy, especially when you are already richer than your wildest dreams.

There are plenty of people who are well off and change careers/jobs to move out of the rat race for more job satisfaction, even it it means less money. Hardly like it’s a world first. And those people aren’t even in the same ball park wealth wise as Bale.

Quite simply, if Bale wants to play top level football in a non poisonous environment then he’s going to have to compromise, just like Real will also have to if they desperately want rid of him.

We completed project “ try to get the team into the Champions League on a limited budget while we build a stadium” in June.

Like your title for the new project.

No they don’t, but they don’t have another guaranteed contract worth approx £50-60m to move to either. Or Bale’s accumulated wealth.

It’s all relative. I’m just saying there are other things in life than money. Even if it’s a SHIT LOAD of money.

The money thing is a pointless argument. It's not personal money that he keeps in a big piggy bag. He becomes a business at this level. He'll have people working for him to invest that money. For all we know, that 90m he's due could be tied up in some massive investment project (like building a big fancy golf course), therefore he might well need the money. We simply don't know.

Literally no chance. It's not happening IMO. None of it adds up.

The options are very limited. If I follow it logically, I think PSG could be the eventual destination - pretty sure after Neymar departed from Barca there were rumblings that he would liked to have gone to Madrid. Given that he’s now persona non grata at PSG and is on an equally cumbersome contract some form of swap with the two ticks a lot of boxes ...

PSG get a superstar who is far more professional

Bale gets to move to a city that is central in Europe and close to the UK.

Madrid get a new Galactico that they have presumably coveted in the past

Neymar goes to a massive club that can stoke his ego

Any such swap deal is always complicated but these are exceptional circumstances.

In the UK the maximum award for constructive dismissal is the loser of a year’s salary or £86,444.

I don’t know Spanish law but I doubt Bale would want to go down this route.
