@GrantWahl - Real Madrid source: Gareth Bale acquisition is happening. Says he doubts Fábio Coentrão will end up being part of it.

Grant is a proper journalist. I have no doubt this is what he was told.

beat me to it! you're too fast!

Man...as a fan from the USA...my first years as a Spurs fan was watching Gareth Bale change from a kid who lost his first 20-something games to one of the best, most exciting players in the world.

I look at the team sheet and we might be better, and I know the player wanted the move, but it's bittersweet. I know it's good business and what had to be done, but it still sucks. He'll never score for Spurs again. We'll never see him in our shirt again.

It sucks.

(sorry, it just hit me that it's over)

That made me sad too. It's a good few weeks since I understood that he was more likely to be off than staying and we are in a whole lot better shape now BUT it will still hurt when he leaves. We were so lucky to have seen him wear the lilywhite shirt, boys and girls

Grant Wahl is just like every other reporter. He's no more or less "proper" than any of them. They do the job their editors demand. Just because you're American and he's American doesn't mean he deserves our respect.

Case in point......Dempsey is in Seattle rather than being traded to Villa for Benteke (July 12th)

By the way, touting Wahl isn't going to win you any friends with the English. He wasn't very kind to Beckham and Beckham once had a public go at him. And you'll soon learn that the people here have a high degree of respect for Beckham (rightly so)

So good luck selling that lemon

Hello putting words in my mouth.

I never said because he's American he deserves your respect. It just seems to me that every news source mentioned on here (Mirror, Guardian, Sun, Marca et al) is constantly said to be making transfer stories up to sell papers. The transfer rumor game for the EPL in the UK seems to be light years ahead in terms of rumors and false reporting when compared to the trade and free agency rumors in the US for the pro sports here. I apologize if that's not the case, that's definitely how it is made out to be, though. Wahl is a respected journalist in the States, so I'm more inclined to trust what he says because of the lack of a rumor mill here. I'm sure you've got some reporters in the UK you trust more than others, no? Or do you just not trust any?

People don't like a reporter b/c he had it out w/ Beckham? That's their prerogative, I could care less. If they're fickle enough to not like someone because they hold a reporter in high regard who once crossed a favorite person of theirs then that's on them, not me.

Well he's not trying to sell papers like many of the British press. And this report is unrelated to his latest piece, an interview with Balotelli. So it appears he has less motivation to sensationalize - especially with a tweet that had little, if any, input from an editor.

Also, he has a reputation of being a solid journalist.

Sounds like the Beckham feud with Wahl touches a nerve with you, so I won't address that.

Back on topic, I hope we hear that Levy negotiated dibs on a purchase of Bale from Real.

Interesting to hear rumours that Coentrao is difficult. Surely this makes the deal itself a hell of a lot more difficult. I'd imagine RM need a player involved to be able to meet our price.

As someone else has mentioned it might take RM subsidising his wages Ade style.

Would love a deal to fall through due to no players being willing to be p/ex'd!

The value either side put on Fabio c has to be made up in moolah!

Which is funny in itself as Madrid probably overstated it and we were probably understating it.

So who won that battle has lost out in the moolah :D

I really couldn't care less about Coentrao. If he wants to stay in Spain that's cool with me. I'm interested in seeing what Rose has now that he's grown a bit

If he is to be sold it would be sweet if he played one more game for us. The game against Arsenal, and score the winning goal. What a way to leave the club and the league.

never happen but that be super sweet way to leave

IF (big if) Benzema goes to Arsenal from Madrid like tonights rumours suggest and that is what finances the Bale deal that would be a fucking huge kick in the bollocks, not happy with that scenario...
