Honestly I don't care anymore. He is behaving in a very unprofessional manner and so I say good riddance. Even if a club Like Madrid turns his head, he is under contract and should behave as such until the transfer is done. Playing games by saying he will stay as long as ambition is shown then going right up to the contract signing before changing his mind? Having a tantrum just because we won't sell him for whatever Madrid want to pay? Unprepared to let us replace him? As far as I am concerned, Spurs delivered on all promises. Good new signings were made. A new contract making him our top earner was presented. No good keeping him now as he would just sulk. Thanks for you efforts so far and it's a shame you couldn't leave on a positive note.

Could have been a true legend but this is starting to make me compare him to a certain Judas who also messed us around on contracts....

After all, selling Bale for such a price is right! Keeping Bale is not right when we don`t have the right players to accomplish him as player (even though we might have those players now!?). I mean, you don`t drive a new Porsche 911 mith mid-range tires.. Something like that. Now we can buy a lot of good players to many positions, and the team will all in all be stronger.. Lets be positive.

Anyway, it was the right decision taken by Levy. But, I don`t think it was the right decision for Bale and Real Madrid, but time will show..

Regarding the fine: What about community service or community work, or what do you call it in english? Bale can cut some grass, watering lawns, shine Levys shoes, and paint walls in south east London etc.? I think thats good for him now. It will also bring him down to earth and we`ll make a statement that way!

Good luck at Madrid, Gareth. I really think one more season here would have been better for his development. He will have zero margin for error over there.

What a player, and what an honour that we had him for as long as we did. The money from his transfer can now take our club to the next level, which everyone resorting to abuse should remember. Soldado, Lamela, Paulinho, Capoue, all paid for from Bale. He has helped bring Spurs to a much larger global audience, and leaves a legacy in the fantastic players his sale has afforded us.

Great post, agree with all you say. This little mini strike leaves a slightly bitter taste, but it doesn't detract from the great things he did at spurs. I also agree that it's a year too soon and I'm sure we would have made the cl with him this season and from there.... Who knows. The pressure in Madrid is going to be massive and he's going to ruffle superstar feathers the moment he arrives for his first day at training.

On the plus side I think this season's team even without bale is stronger than last season's with him. Such a shame, because this team with him would be even better.

What did we do wrong?
Everything. We suck. We should take a good hard look at how Liverpool have conducted themselves these last few yrs. They've been the standard for everyone. Transfers, PR. Footballing philosophy. They've fucking nailed it all.

The sky clip shown just now of AVB was different from the first one, in the original " the transfer could happen very quickly or it could take longer" the latest clip had the same quote but also with the added " it could take until deadline day" edit and broadcast what they want.

If bale does go in this way it will set a dangerous precedent for any future star play we discover that wants to leave, just throw a strop and your get your way and we will sell you. It happen with modric and now look like bale will be next.

That precedent was set with Berbatov, if not before.

What Levy has done, however, is make absolutely sure that clubs know they're going to pay a premium for taking a player we'd rather not sell. Let's face it - Bale's good, but he's not worth the figures being quoted. Neither were Berbatov and Modric worth what we got. The Berbatov and Modric sales were played the best possible way by Levy, in the (difficult) circumstances - IMO. Not just for the cash he got, but for the message he sent out.

If it wasn't for that then other clubs would have been trying to unsettle some of our other players as well. But unless you're one of the mega-rich few, they know it's just not worth it.

Managers and Chairmen around the world claim not to be "a selling club". But the truth is that every club is a selling club at the right price. What Levy has made damn sure of though, is that we're regarded as F&M, not Lidl.

If bale goes how will be next?

Long term it will harm our chances of getting the best deal if the buying club knows they can easily unsettle a player.
I think the precedent was set quite some time ago by a certain Bulgarian, closely followed by a Croat and now the tradition simply continued by a Welshman.

Levy should at least insist he hands in a written transfer request. That would save us over 8 million pounds of the loyalty clause.
