Vertonghen now officially scored no goals in that game at the weekend. Incredible really.

Add that to the goal discredited in the OT victory a few years ago and he's been very unlucky.

I fucking hate the FA, the 'Dubious Goals Panel', the refs association, and all the other admin tossers who consistently make the sport look like a complete joke.

i never did understand the one at old trafford. his shot was clearly going in, all the deflection did was take it to the opposite side of the goal.

If your shot is traveling toward the goal its is your goal. It doesnt matter if it travels to a different part of the goal.
It should only be an own goal if the defender whacks it in.
What is the benefit of taking the goal away from someone who wants to score it and giving it to someone who doesnt?

The "Dubious Goals Panel" is just a selection of ex pros given a sinecure because they are to stupid and idle to find anything to employ themselves with after retiring from playing.

TBH i'm not convinced Verts' shot was actually going in. Still a joke that he ends up with none, though.

I'm going to go against the grain here I reckon... I think it was an own goal.

Agreed.

But, given that Jan has already been denied a perfectly legitimate goal in the same game as a consequence of atrocious officiating, it surely wouldn't have been asking too much for the panel to turn a blind eye on this one occasion. Just seems so petty minded and uncharitable.

no one wants an OG. It serves very little purpose to credit goals as own goals. Purely for 'accuracy' or for some other reason, maybe it's the only thing that gives their panel a cause in life.

Bet he is even more gutted if he has a goal bonus clause in his contract.

Levy has probably had a word with the FA now I think about it.

the linesman had his house on Jan Vertonghen to NOT score at any time and has a connection at the FA. only possible explanation for me, and I can't be bothered to hear otherwise.

Under normal circumstances, a bit unlucky considering he had the goal taken off him at OT.

But feck me, after the cluster fuck with what should of been his second goal on Saturday you would of thought they would of just left the first one well alone. Its not like it was a blatant own goal or anything.

But oh no, they had to examine it and strip it from him. Why don;t they analyse the fact that his second goal being ruled out was one of the most blatant errors of judgement to be seen at this level.

Its just the lack of common sense that frustrates.

Does it matter if it was deflected, wasnt it on target ? I thought if its on target, even if it takes a deflection its a goal for the attacking player ?

Aye, and what if the keeper gets his hand to it? Does that make it an own goal too?
