Would fans be happy with finishing 6th - 10th for 5 seasons if it meant building a new stadium because I cannot see how we can afford the investment in players needed to push on to be Top 4 regulars and build the new stadium.

I can see a number of frustrating seasons ahead

And to Levy - investing in the squad, developing the squad and strenghtening in key positions looks nice on paper but the reality is you sell our most influencial players so its always 1 step forward and 2 back. Fed up with his empty promises.

We have invested heavily in our Academy over the years and there will be a level of expectation that although we may not have quite as much to sped season upon season, we will begin to churn out some youngsters of the necessitated quality. Players like Bentalb, Pritchard, Carroll and Kane.

Yeah, its important people realise that this loan is being converted to equity and is not the same as ENIC/Joe Lewis providing a £40m net investment in the playing squad.

I'm not making a judgement on one way or another but it doesn't prove ENIC are any less or more serious about investing in the football team.

One thing this statement highights is just how difficult it is for a London club to get a new stadium project up and running. It's so much easier in other parts of the country with less built up areas and problems with CPO's etc. Frustratingly, the gooners really came up trumps in this regard and at the right time as well. Wankers.

If ENIC didn't make the loan then where would the funds have come from? By making the loan they prevent the cash having to come from the operating budget. In other words it is in an investment in the football team, or rather it's a false distinction to consider the various projects as independent of each other.

agree but we have seen that when we do play one or more of these youngsters the masses don't like it

So I have read that through a few times now, but each time I have missed the bit about employing a real manager...

Can someone point that bit out to me please?

The problem isn't that we play them together, the problem is when we play them, the formation and the general approach to using them. If Bentaleb had played a part in every game under Sherwood, but had only started games where he could learn in then that would have been applauded rather than ridiculed. For example, starting Bentaleb against City and Liverpool over more experienced players just made the boy look out of his depth (which he was). Blooding young players is like getting anyone started in a new career. When an apprentice starts at a garage they learn on corsas and clios not ferraris, we have a lot to learn from Wenger in that respect.

Oh I agree. I'm just saying it doesn't negate the arguments that ENIC haven't provided enough net investment in the playing squad in recent times. Especially as CL qualification has been such a millstone around the managers neck (usually imposed by Levy I might add).

Bastard Son of Levy chiming in:

I'm happy with that statement.

Few points raised that deserve highlighting for me:

1. Europa league & Cup revenue is quite high, so it seems at board level any European involvement is a requisite.
2. Recognition that whilst our aim is Champions League, it's super competitive
3. Recognition that despite turmoil & some dreadful results, we've done OK points wise this year; the top 4 have improved as a group
4. We will always adhere to FFP; ie: we'll not blow £60m in one summer; some fans need to understand this! You might not like it, but it's in our strategy. We're one of few clubs that specifically operates like a business.
5. No massive overhaul in the summer, we are 'to strengthen in key positions'.
6. The squad had 'potential'; it does! Hopefully won't be selling off players at Tim's whim.
7. The club is happy to put the stadium at the front of the message; it should get done.

I know season tickets are coming round, but hey, pick it apart it sounds alright.

We're never gonna do things outside a defined financial framework, that's not Levy, it's not ENIC, but I for one am thankful that the people running the club, for all their perceived failings, do at least have the right intentions.

We could have owners like Leeds did, or Portsmouth, or Vincent fucking Tan.
Or sold to some weird conglomerate of uber-rich third world exploitees.

I'll take the rough with the smooth thanks.

edit: Oh, and Sherwood out.

I suspect that the problem is that mid season and prior to the World Cup there won't be too many really good managers available, hence TS given the rest of the season. I suspect, not ITK, that he was given an 18 month contract to prevent the "dead man walking" issue.

Does anyone know what the Chelsea season ticket waiting list is? Their stadium isn't that much bigger than ours but you never hear about them looking to increase their capacity.

I'm sure you don't need this explaining to you, but until we build a new stadium and are able to pay bigger wages our best players are always going to be tempted by offers elsewhere.

Weren't they looking at battersea power station as a possible place to build a new ground? They are definitely looking to move from SB.

That's because they have unlimited cash.

Our stadium actually would increase our revenues within the limits of FFP, leading to greater prosperity.

They just print money.

Oh and 2017 my arse. I'll believe it when I see shovels in the ground and parts of the ground being closed off

They've been trying to relocate as well. They wanted the Battersea Power station site but missed out.

They also have issues with Stamford Bridge and some agreement regarding the pitch being part owned by fans/small shareholders or something. IIRC they didn't like the way Roman was going about acquiring the land and blocked it.

This basically said to me that Tim is definitely gone at the end of the season.

From where should the money for that investment come?
