I agree. My point was that we don't need to get carried away with the unrealistic Falcaos - our true targets are exciting transfers in their own right.I really think there has been a significant change in our finances. Once the club stopped being a plc there was no longer a legal obligation to make transfer costs and other financial details available. Lots of rumours about Lewis being involved more, and about possible funding from overseas.
Other things seemed to suggest this as well. Sigurdsson turning down the opportunity to work with Rodgers again in favour of Spurs (not saying we're not a more attractive team than Liverpool, but money is always important). AVB saying that Levy approaches transfers in a "different way" really made me think that we have the money, but are going out of our way not to advertise the fact. Lewis or A.Nother might be putting a huge amount of investment into the team, however it's in Levy's nature to keep costs to a minimum wherever possible. What good would come from publically stating that we have the cash to step up to a level that can compete with United, Arsenal and Liverpool (if not Chavski and City)? None.
I think JJ knows exactly what is going on, but is quite correctly avoiding any comments on it. He's already posted about Lewis in a way that implies a shift in his recent input, then gone noticeably quiet when the topic of investment has come up.
I think the powers that be reckognise where we are as a club. We're not knocking on the door of the top 4. We're a team that has finished in the top 4 twice in three years. Now is the time to step up investment when we are in the mix. A new, young manager, an incredible new training facility, a new stadium on the cards...this is the perfect time to start competing with the big boys.
Having said all that I don't think we'll get Falcao. It's my belief that we're using the investment money on wages rather than transfers. I suspect we'll smash our transfer record by re-investing the sale of Modric by bringing in Moutinho, but I can't see us bringing in someone like Falcao.
