Hearing Martin Jol on TalkSport the other day; blimey, is that guy's enthusiasm infectious. He clearly didn't think much of Conte's formation and tactical approach to games; particularly the way in which we lined up in midfield.

I loved jol

He needed backing

Yes it's certainly a lot better now. Although it's not really geared towards a particular system or brand of football. There's enough for a new manager to work with at least.
And that’s all I’ve ever asked for, a coach who can get the best out of our current players. If you can’t do that, how the fuck can you consider yourself elite? I don’t want to hear any mor bollocks about needing a coach with enough gravitas to persuade Danny to loosen purse strings, that’s just madness.

Honestly feel's like Levy has been on serious character assassination mode with all these tit bits coming out, it isn't even subtle. Embarrassing really.

Chigwell, or at least he used to.
Yeah, used to live in Repton Park. Loads of Spurs' players used to live there. Once my mate got his video game nicked by Berbatov! Got posted through his door, according to postie, and Berba denied all knowledge of it

We've invested a lot of money in young talent now though. Romero, Bentancur, Kulusevski, Bissouma, Emerson, Porro, Udogie, Richarlison, Spence. We got the ball rolling with Ndombele, LoCelso and Reguillon too. Overall, I think the hit/miss ratio on those has been fairly good in the overall scheme of things. I genuinely think we're on a 2 or 3 signings away from a very impressive squad, but then again it's hard to think of any top clubs who don't need anything else. Right now I think the right DoF is actually more important than the right manager because we need someone other than Levy to oversee the next few years.
I agree. It's why I get frustrated with doomsayers claiming we be lucky to be top 6... Our current squad is good enough to challenge for top 4. We might not get it but we can certainly challenge for it. Just need to show hunger, which on the front foot, we do have

We need to play to our strengths. It's no good managers trying to force players into a system or ethos that isn't right for them like Conte has been doing. There's a huge amount of talent in our squad and any manager worth their salt would be able to use it better than we've seen recently.

Levy will hate the home truths. He’s also (by the looks of it anyway) put a ban on any player commenting on AC departure. Again, funny and a bit pathetic.

I'm not sure what this proves. Man City bought better players than Stephen Ireland? That's hardly a shock, given they are/were the wealthiest club in the world. The summer following Mancini joining, they spent about 185 million Euros on new players. That's 185 million 13 years ago!

For context, we, Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal, spent 173m Euros that summer- combined!

(in the summer of 2010: we spent about 26 million Euros; Chelsea spent about 113m; Liverpool spent about 95m; Man U spent about 29.5m; Arsenal spent about 23m.)
Point I was making was Ireland was city's best player at that point, in a team that included Kompany, Toure, Richards etc.. Club directors backed the manager in getting rid of Ireland, even though he was player of the year, very popular with players & fans. From top level down, there was a clear vision within the club.

Subsequently spending big & adding quality players undoubtedly helped City achieve their success, but spending vast sums alone over the past 10 years hasn't been as successful at Man Utd.

I remember doing a coaching course years ago and the old boy that was running it had a youth coaching CV that was off the charts Utd, Ajax, Celtic etc etc. He told us never tell the kids it was bad luck because luck doesn't come into it. If your shot hits the cross bar or the post it wasn't unlucky it was off target. If the ball deflected in off you r tackle it wasn't bad luck and you should have put a better block in. Obviously this has to be done in an encouraging way, "you were so close and with a little more practice you'll get that one in future". He said when kids believe it's all down to luck they won't feel the need to work that little bit harder. From whistle to whistle luck doesn't come into it, only preparation, practice, and performance. That has stuck with me for over a decade.
Just had lunch with my academy director (from Derby County) and showed him this quote. We both agreed that captures in a nutshell one of the most important lessons players could ever learn and it does this with a certain elegance about it. And because of that, its one of the most important lessons coaches should learn. Thanks.

Wouldn't be totally against a Jol return as a Technical Director supporting Arne Slot (same agency). A football man who knows what we want and would give the manager what he needs. Obviously would be a bit different role to how Paratici does his, maybe more David Pleat like.
I would love that need prople at the club who know the tottenham way. Love to see big Martin get a job at the club but no chance under that clown Levy unfortunately.

Covering himself in attempt to make it out all Conte fault so he doesn't need to buy a whole new team typical Levy.

I think it was Matt Doherty who said after a preseason game that they’d already done a full day’s training before it and none of them had known anything like it. I maintain he lost a few of them during preseason when they just went too hard on them and it showed in the early matches. This is a group of players too who lots of them had experienced a Poch preseason which were known to be exhausting.
Doherty is a big Conte fan. Speaks very highly of him. I don’t think what Conte was asking of the players fitness wise was an issue.

Not doubting that the leaks are coming out from Spurs but I wonder how it works.

Here you go Antonio, here's a load of money but you have to be quiet and not slag off the club in any interviews . We on the other hand
will post negative stories to the press about your poor coaching methods etc ......Do we have a deal?

I just remember him commenting on it and thinking it weird. A double preseason training session and then a game in the evening. That’s a lot of exercise.
