I stand corrected. It will still be challenging but that helps.

I really thought the first match was at home. Aging memory.
Haha no worries! Yeah I back us to win at home.
we never win at Stamford bridge so I’m guessing best we can hope for is a draw. Just hope they drop points against Brighton

We got him to the negotiating table but then Levy snatched the chocolate Hobnobs and locked them back in the safe. If he doesn't back Conte absolutely 100% now he's a complete fool. I think Levy knows this and will act accordingly since we won't have a better chance of making huge gains any time soon if Conte doesn't get what he wants.

What Conte has done is show what a complete fraud Mourinho was. The so called 'uncoachable' players have been turned around in such a short space of time with, yes you guessed it, coaching. Systems have been deployed to get the best out of what we have, and players have been given clearly defined instuctions within those system which are 2 vital things Mourinho never bothered with.
I actually disagree with the last bit, I know pro José posts aren't going to go down well round here, but José got a system that worked for us for a while (top around Xmas, spanking utd along the way). He got us playing on the counter. Not exciting and not creating as many chances but there was a plan.

But he lost the dressing room and while he had to rely on Tanguy, winks, Dele and Sissoko. Conte has Oliver Skipp, which is a massive upgrade. And the players that are said to be 'uncoachable' have not really been turned around by Conte. One good game from Dele, bergwijn and winks does not constitute a turn around. Still nothing from Tanguy, lo Celso and Doherty (all though more suited to the new position).

The players who are better now are Davies (more suited to his new position), reguillon (same), dier (improved under Nuno). Only really Lucas who has been better.

The formation is part of the key, it just suits our players better, so I actually agree with this part.

Conte is clearly doing a brilliant job with the players he has and I'm not saying José was great, not by a long shot.

Rambling a bit now, but I wouldn't be writing home about our squad players yet and saying all we needed was a good manager.

A few injuries and tough fixtures and we will see that there is a massive job for Conte to do and I think he knows it. We still need to shift some of the stragglers.

I hope those players prove me wrong and Conte works his magic with them, but I am not confident.
This is not a criticism of Conte or praise of José, but there is a long road and talk of top four is wildly premature. We may get it but it could be more down to luck with injuries and United and arsenal messing up.

A good January window is still a must. (Both ins and outs). But very promising signs so far and I actually enjoy watching us now.

Antonio,Antonio Antonio Antonio. So.. around 75mins into the game. One of the seasons ticket holders that was sat right next to me asked “who is Antonio” at least a dozen of them all around me. Said “of course “ after I told him it was conte. He obviously realised Afterwards. His friends further down were clapping to the palace fans Singing. Great use of the season ticket opportunity value.
me and my 6 year old were belting out the usual that we could hear from the south stand. Great seats but never again.

If Conte's system leads us to winning trophies, I can't see the players getting tired of that.
The players will tire of it, physically and mentally. It’s why every year you need 2-3 new players. Constant refresh. Fergie was great at refreshing his side regularly. We cannot do to Conte what we did to Poch.

Perhaps that is why Conte doesn't stay so long at any club ? He knows he needs the constant refresh and when he doesn't get it he is off.

Yep. He wants perfection of his system and 100% desire and commitment every single day. Some players can be like that for longer, others will need refreshing.

I’m actually quite amazed that Klopp has still got his squad still singing to his tune. He hasn’t had much change in the last few transfer windows. Was hoping they would fall away.

Did they have a giant hand thingy? Were they eating popcorn? Were they singing “let’s go defence”.

He’s still had a stream of fresh blood here and there. Jota, Tiago, Konate, all coming in and just freshening things up a bit. Teams don’t need major surgery constantly, but there does need to be a recognition that people get bored of doing the same job constantly, seeing the same people day in day out, being told the same things by the same boss etc etc.

I think that happened at Spurs and it started a malaise in the squad that we are only now starting to see the end of.

As others have said, the great managers always know when to move someone on and when to bring someone new in etc. We likely should have moved people like Eriksen and Dembele on sooner than we did. Both great players, but in Eriksen’s case he clearly needed a new challenge, and Dembele just fell off a cliff physically.

I think the simple truth with Nuno is that he was burnt out. That's what was said when he left Wolves. Mendes probably convinced him to cash in at Spurs but he had nothing left in the tank. He didn't engage with the players and didn't contribute anything much on the training pitch or on the sidelines either. In fact, he was even more washed up than Mourinho which is quite an achievement.
Completely this. And it was obvious to just about everyone before, during and after his tenure with us. I’d say employing him over Conte or some of the other candidates in the game at the time was probably one of Levy’s most spectacular fuck ups; yes, it’s brilliant we’ve got Conte now but employing Nuno in the first place is a great example of the worst elements of Levy’s decision making; namely to take the easier, cheaper option when the evidence clearly suggests otherwise

I'm so intrigued by what he is thinking privately.

The improvement in players like Davies, wink etc is great but I wonder if he really thinks that they're good enough to sustain a top four /title challenge. I hope he does.

These next two windows will be fascinating. My primary hope is at the end of it we have a content manager who feels backed.

Liverpool have refreshed their squad recently ...

Minamino
Thiago
Jota
Tsimikas
Konate

Plus some young players bringing fresh energy ...

Harvey Elliot, Curtis Jones, Tyler Morton

Once you get a very effective first team squad that is winning trophies you don't want more than 2 or 3 new players each year - just enough to freshen it up. Jota's arrival revitalised their entire front line and they have real competition for places again.

Conte is doing great. But I don't think we really need to rag on Nuno too much. Nuno and Conte have not been dealt the same hand. Nuno was labelled as our last choice, he wasn't really backed, and his best player was mentally AWOL.
Nuno was seemingly pressured into playing a way he didn't want to.
For Nuno to succeed he probably would have needed to go down a similar route as pochettino and get rid of the established players and replace them with young hungry players, but never got a chance.
Conte has come in and been treated like royalty. He has arguably earned that.
I guess what I'm trying to say is Nuno wouldn't of told his players "the way to success is to run, press and shoot less than any team in the league"

I have no hatred or dislike Nuno but he was a really crap manager for us. He didn't deal with any situation at all and the quality of football was appalling.

Conte took on the same mess and has done so much better it's unreal.

I read several pieces that while under Jose he expected the players to be professionals and keep themselves in good shape and he'd teach them the tactical. This didn't work at all.

I have no idea what Nuno was trying to achieve.

Conte is showing that the hands-on approach and pushing the players to be their best is what works. This isn't new manager bounce, this is a world class manager working at a high level.

We're already seeing signs of a couple of players turning it around. I'm not expecting a lot of January signings. If we make one quality signing like Vlahovic I'd be happy.

I still think we need to sell a few but I wonder if Conte will want to work with the players for another half a season first before we sell.

He was meant to have a meeting with Paratici a few weeks ago to go through his evaluation of the squad but they postponed it to give him more time. Ally Gold said they are to sit down soon to have that meeting. It might have already happened in the last few days. So it seems a bit up in the air. I think the players we haven't really seen at all will be the ones available, players like Rodon.

Surely we don't believe that Conte isn't in almost daily discussions with Paratici on ins and outs
