Did I dream that Conte came on SC last night, and started calling us all ****s, and the mods had to ban him and delete all his posts?

Or was that real?

Fuck, I spend too much time on here...

We are not where we should be..Yet! (we will).

But we are starting to look like our selfs again. And THAT makes me happy and positive.

And its because we now have a manager in Conte, that looks to fit us better then the 2 previous ones :woot:

One thing which I think is very different now that we have Conte as our manager is Belief!

Some of the players and some of the fans didn't ever believe in Mouriniho and thought he wasn't the right manager for us and that he was past it, I'm not even sure Jose believes in his methods anymore tbh.

Under Nuno neither the players or fans believed in Nuno, his tactics or his motivational methods.

Whereas with Conte there is a sense that EVERYONE associated with the clubs now believes again.
Conte said himself as I posted the other day that he focuses on 3 elements:
  • Tactics
  • Fitness
  • Mentality
Now this might sound obvious and you'd think that all top level coaches would focus on these elements however some don't, whilst others aren't good at or experts in one or a number of these three main aspects. E.g. Jose's tactics were outdated, he didn't really prioritise fitness and his motivational tricks no longer inspire. Nuno's tactics were basic at best and at times non-existent and the players were not motivated or as fit as they should be.

However Conte has proven time and time again that he is a world class tactician, his teams are as fit as they come and his teams are mentally very resilient and strong.

Now only time will tell in terms of how successful Conte is with us and of course the players we bring in and move on will have a large impact on that but I even think back to under Poch when we had a far superior team to that which we have now yet we failed to get over the line a number of times and for me I think that was partly down to Poch's tactics being very good but not imo world class but also from a mentality perspective Poch hadn't ever got over the line to win as a coach before and you could see the stress and pressure he felt in interviews and how he broke down in tears after the semi-final, I cannot for a minute image Conte doing that and for me Conte is a stronger more ruthless winner type of character and I think that is exactly what our club needs.

Added to this I think the fans now believe again as well and are united behind the fact that Conte is a genuine world class coach.

There is a good story in a book called 'The Power of Habit' by Charles Duhigg about Tony Dungy a famous NFL coach who masterminded the transformation of the Tampa Bay Bucs and who's Indianapolis Colts overcame a 21-3 half time deficit to come back beat the famous New England Patriots and go on to win the super bowl. Tony's key to success? Belief.

Tony Dungy felt that it wasn't nessercary to have this 100 page complex playbook to win, rather that if they just taught the offense and defence a select number of plays which they mastered and believed in then this would take away any decision-making anxiety which would lead to faster reactions and better performances.

How does this relate to Conte? Well as you may have heard recently from numerous player interviews such as PEH, Davies, Son etc, Conte makes it very clear exactly what every player needs to do with the ball, without the ball, in space, lacking space and in many common tactical scenarios. Fabregas (boo) at first hated how structured Conte's system was as it went against his natural creativity but once he got onboard with it he said it was the most he improved as a player and once he and the team believed in it then it was easy for that Chelsea title winning team to for example win 13 games in a row because the movements just became habits they believed in.

There are of course many different styles of coaching and tactics and different approaches which can be successful but if you look at the top top managers such as Pep, Klopp, Tuchel, you will notice that their teams are drilled to perfection and know exactly what to do in every situation but most importantly they believe in the system and the manager.

Anyway with all the Covid bollocks going on this week hopefully this insight was interesting to focus more on the potential and positives rather than the short-term doom and gloom of the negative Covid tests, what will be will be but I really believe that if we give Conte some half-decent signings he can work into his system the belief will grow and grow within the club, players and fans and he will be the manager to get us to that next level and to get us over the line.

I understand he’s a class manager etc. But I still believe he’s playing the wrong formation. It was worrying we should have conceded 3 goals minimum against Norwich and how much possession they had and how easy we are to play against. I genuinely think what Liverpool will do to us with that much space.
you play through our front 3s poor press attempt then a 3 man midfield easily dominates leave us easy to play through.
he’s come in wanting to play the formation that work 4/5 years ago in the prem.
Norwich also had a few injuries which makes it even more worrying. I think if Norwich score that huge chance early on we don’t win that game.
What, like we failed to win against Leeds when they went a goal up after outplaying us in the first half?

I will remove if people genuinely get so torn up over these ratings. However, what does the off topic rating exist for if not to flag up posts that are not on the topic being discussed?
I personally don't care all that much, it just seemed a bit harsh to neg three posts that were clearly in error. For me, the off-topic rating is reserved for people who knowingly make posts that lead a thread off topic. For example, what happened to the thread with info of Spurs players with covid. The last two pages descended into bickering over testing and herd immunity bollocks.

I think that was the Spurs COVID outbreak thread which has now disappeared. Plenty on people getting called a t**t and mofo in there last night. ?

Wonder if Dele, Tanguy and Bergwijn believe in Conte?

So if Norwich score 1 early goal, we wouldn’t go on to score any goals? You’ll have to show your working out on that one.

I think it would be better to judge him when we get a run of games against good teams or teams that are better than us. It would be during adversity when we can see how much the team has progressed (if at all) under him; because the way you handle defeats and struggle in difficult circumstances is how you can tell if a team is well-drilled.

It's easy to play your preferred style against inferior players, and very difficult against teams that are better.

I think you need to refer to the post I was replying to. They said if Norwich had scored first we wouldn't have won so I countered with a real world and recent example to disprove the theory.
