Might sound a bit of a spoiled brat response, but I can’t see myself supporting Spurs within a super league set-up. In my mind it would create an elitist club where only the richest can participate. For me - and whilst the premier league does nod towards elitism - football is grassroots; the youngsters in the park kicking a football with dreams of playing for a top team; the lower league teams having a good run and being promoted; players being talent spotted. A super league reeks of setting themselves outside of this reality... I’m not keen

The spoiled brat response is by the clubs setting up this super league. "It's not fair! Leicester/Atalanta/Sevilla shouldn't be allowed to challenge us!"

It's just rich foreign owners wanting to maximise their tax right offs. Load of bollocks, they try this every 5 years or so. Never happen.

Sorry, this might've been covered already but I've read a few articles and it hasn't come up yet - who's proposing this? Is it a conglomerate of representatives for the clubs? A third party with a lot of money? All of the relevant governing bodies seem to have aired their less than cheerful views on the matter and, if it's not an actual governing body, then surely they would have to answer to the relevant governing body to be considered legitimate, wouldn't it?

This is pretty confusing, tbh.

I mean this is a group of clubs lead by figures like Perez, Agnelli and what not. It's almost certainly something that happened through chairmen talking behind closed doors, it looks like they have already found financing and tv deals, but it's club initiated and there have been mumblings for a long time now.

It's not going to be legitimate, this will result in a breakaway or possible restructuring by governing bodies to appease these clubs, but I see the former as more likely. A few more concessions regarding the new CL might be what they are really after though. But if it does happen these clubs will form their own governing body, probably led by Perez. Just like the concept itself, it will not be democratic in the slightest. There are rumours that FIFA might back it, I doubt it, but there are rumours. If that happens it will essentially be a competitor to UEFA.

So have I missed the 9.30pm announcement or did they bottle it?

Looks like they bottled it. Fucking idiots. All the clubs involved deserve to be punished. Can't believe we were thinking of being a part of it. Bill Nicholson would be disgusted.

BBC:

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are among 12 clubs who have agreed to join a new European Super League (ESL).

In a seismic move for European football, the Premier League clubs will join AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid.
The ESL said the founding clubs had agreed to establish a "new midweek competition" and that the inaugural season "is intended to commence as soon as practicable".

It also "anticipated that a further three clubs will join" the breakaway.

Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer will be a vice-chairman of the Super League.

He said: "By bringing together the world's greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid."

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Uefa and the Premier League condemned the move when news of it broke on Sunday.

Worst thing is as a Founding Club we can't get relegated, so we won't even have that excitement to hold on to. Imagine finishing bottom of the Super League literally every season
