How many of the named clubs have American owners (or big sponsors/look under a few stones and trip over ownership with an offshore bank account)

Worst thing is as a Founding Club we can't get relegated, so we won't even have that excitement to hold on to. Imagine finishing bottom of the Super League literally every season

Not to mention, how dull will the PL be now that teams don't have to finish high to qualify? If you take this season as an example, there are 6 or 7 games left to play and the teams between 3rd to 13th have literally nothing to play for.

Its reality for any league outside top 5. One team Cl ,one EL , maybe cup and playoff stages.

It'll be like the 90s again only the teams that beat Spurs will be more glamorous.

I'm fascinated to see what happens next.

This has a direct impact on the PL, La Liga, Serie A, Uefa and Fifa, but let's take a look at the PL.

The PL are caught between a rock and a hard-place. If they kick the 'Big 6' out, or otherwise sanction them, then that's going to have a huge effect on their TV revenues, which will crater. Fans, especially the global fans, want to watch the big teams play in the big games. Fans will switch off if they don't get this.

But if they allow the 'Big 6' to continue to play in their league, then they'll be in trouble with Uefa. The FA will also be under the cosh, because the best players will more than likely be playing in the Super-League and apparently be banned from the big international tournaments. But then the same applies to them; does anyone want to watch the European Championships or the World Cup without the best players? Probably not.

This scenario also has a knock-on effect for clubs up and down the country (and of course throughout Europe). As much as the PL has created an environment where the rich get richer, there is also a sizeable amount of that money that finds it way to clubs throughout the footballing pyramid. If the PL doesn't have the 'Big 6' in it, you can kiss all that cash goodbye. This will be compounded by the financial problems related to Covid.

The guys who run the 'Big 6' clubs aren't stupid; they've crunched the numbers and know that the whole of English football is basically reliant on them, directly or indirectly. They've got a hell of a lot of power and the PL are under immense pressure to give in.

I'm sure they'll be more twists and turns in this story, but this is real and it's happening. The ball's in the court of the football authorities now.

I am sure the Asia and US market is considerably more profitable or has the potential to be then the individual European markets. So I doubt anyone cares too much about the locals fans.

I don’t really see how this can be stopped unless they give the clubs a bigger cut of champions league or league revenue. Then it makes it uncompetitive anyway.

Lol at city and Chelsea fans saying it’s about money. Perhaps they’ve forgotten why they aren’t languishing in div 2.

Another aspect of this for the Big Six is the insulation against the risk of an Oligarch buying Leicester (or whoever) and upsetting the established order. And that will suit the Spanish, too. It means Spanish Government won't be forever looking for excusues to dig Real out of a hole.

The PL threats feel a bit like brinkmanship. Threaten to kick them out, but if they're offered enough of a cut, they'll be allowed to stay.

Top flight football is over for me regardless with this.

There is no way the Premier League will kick them out. They'd lose over 50% of their viewership overnight if they did.

The only thing I would say is that there is nothing stopping the PL reforming. They could easily add a play off system were 2nd to 5th play each other and the winner players the 1st place team in a "final".

Already hard to watch us as it is. "Americanizing" football will be where I give up on it all together.

Owners wanting to fill their pockets is nothing new, but it won't be my money they collect.

Given that this does (surprisingly) include us. It'd be better to keep all the discussion to one thread/forum.

Can people please use this one?

If I need to unlock this thread at some stage if the discussion diverges again, just let me know.
