Its no different to the English clubs ditching the FA and forming the PL. UEFA and FIFA are not forces for good in football. I'm not in favour of SL but I would be in favour of the end of UEFA and FIFA.

The problem with the Super League as it was proposed was always far more the closed shop nature of it than the idea of the actual league itself. As a replacement for the CL (not domestic leagues) it might have legs one day.

As for the ruling, this won't surprise anybody who has any experience with competition law.

It is essentially the new Champions League format in a way. Only teams play 8 games and do not play the same team twice in the league phase. And clubs from same nations can face each other.

Still a while to go before people have a full melt down.

"That does not mean that a competition such as the Super League project must necessarily be approved. The Court does not rule on that specific project in its judgment."

From the BBC.

Those clubs ditched the Football League, not the FA. They're still members of the FA. They wouldn't be allowed to enter the FA Cup otherwise.

Except that it's by invite which is stupid. This last couple years has shown how competitive the league is now. Villa are course to qualify for the CL and Newcastle had their first run in the competition in a long time. They need to keep the league qualification for teams to earn their way into the competition.

The FA do hold one share in the PL and can vote on certain matters.

The Member Clubs of the Premier League

The Premier League is a private company limited by shares. Its shareholders are the 20 Member Clubs at any given time, and The FA, which holds a special share.

Re Super League , the UK is no longer subject to ECJ rulings so doubt it will take off as without English clubs, Bayern Munich & PSG, would anybody watch it.

Precisely. Five teams set up the premier league and they're never been relegated once. One of them even hired lampard and still avoided it. This is a closed league for those clubs and has been for over two decades.

It's hardly a surprise that the EU is for free competiton, free trade etc... no matter the area or subject... that doesn't mean that the Super League will go ahead. Clubs and fans can just continue to say no thanks...

All boils down to if Premier League clubs can join. If they can’t and don’t, then no one’s gonna watch it.

This will take years if anything does come of it.

Every league has top teams who avoid to get relegated. That's just the level they work at. It's very difficult for a top club to lose their grip of being in the top flight. We've been in it since day 1 too and always managed to avoid it when the going got tough. When you're a big club you have the resources to get out of trouble. We got Klinsmann when we needed help for example. It's not a closed league at all.

True enough, viewing it from the top down - which as you say is how it was designed. Viewed from the bottom up, and if you scrunch your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears, the dream that Scragthorpe Rovers could work their way up the pyramid and win it is still there. The Leicester freak show helped in that regard. I think it is important that whatever happens in Europe, the notional possibility remains.

They are working fast Real Madrid and FC Barcelona... they have already contacted FC Copenhagen and Brøndby in Denmark regarding a new attempt to get the Super League going.

TV 2 Sport Denmark learns that FC Copenhagen and Brøndby have received inquiries from A22 Sports Management, which is the company that has worked for the breakout league. According to the media, however, fans should not be afraid that Danish teams will join the Super League, if the project ever becomes a reality.

According to TV 2 Sports information, at least two clubs have received inquiries - in the form of FC Copenhagen and Brøndby IF - from the agency that works for a breakaway league.

The clubs have mostly wondered that what they have been presented with has not been more concrete.

It is different because the PL wasn't set up to be a semi-closed league where the founding members can't be relegated. If Everton finish in the bottom 3 the fact that they're a founding member of the PL won't save them.
