Wasn't navas off side when the ball went through?

Definite pen against Corluka, lucky bastard Spanish.

May have been offside when the ball was played to Iniesta (but that doesn't count as Navas being "involved in play"), but not offside when Iniesta squared to him. So a correct decision.

Croatia could/should have had two penalties though.

Am I the only one who finds watching Spain rather boring? I remember reading the passing stats after the Italy game where Spain had something stupid like over 400 sideways passes. It's like a team of high skilled Vinny Samways are playing.

spain annoy me. if we get a draw tomorrow night, then we will face them in the qtr's. id love to see us smash then. Dreamland i know, but id love a team to just steam roll them with fast paced, high pressive, uber aggressive play. Dont think we will see that under Woy tho.

Anyhoo, why didnt bilic take modders off? he was clearly struggling for the last 20 mins after a kick in the heel from that **** fabregas.

And on modders, he looked back to his best in that match; retaining possession and his little jinks. This game highlighted that he clearly wasn'tt himself last season. If he can go to real for 30mn plus then i say let him go to a top top team abroad. Tidy profit and his service for 4 years wouldnt be too bad.

It's like watching Barcelona play without Messi; you know you're getting a lot of passes but no moments of magic.

That's opinion though, And the big trouble with the interpretation of off side today. Some refs will give off side and some won't. It's off side for me.

No ref should ever give offside there. The laws are clear.

He was orginally but wasnt interfering in the 1st phase, and was then onside during the second phase. o_O

Yeah i noticed the Spaniard all over Charlie, and then only to see Casillias moaning at the 5th official.

The croat should have tucked away modders' sublime cross though, and we may be talking about a different outcome.

Well that was it.

Shame cause i thought tactically we had a great game and the second half we had better clear cut chances IMO. But whatever, glad we leave home with a good performance at least.

I think the goal was legit, no off side, but the 2 pens should have been given to us.

One rant though: Please Blatter and Platini, throw those goal line refs into the bin. Whats the point of having them if they dont call fouls from 2-3 meters away with a clear sight. Pathetic alibi refs.

Croatian highlights of this tournament: Corluka has matured into a passable CB. Mandzukic def left his mark, wont be a Wolfsburg player come Sept 1st.

Exactly that. Barca are great to watch. Constant attack as well as possession. Spain are more akin to assnal - albeit vastly, vastly more talented.

I'm reasonably optimistic about us beating Spain in the Quaters after that performance.

Croatia were at the time also on five points, hence the "mini-league" reference. Before Spain scored both sides had two points in said mini-league, but Italy had scored two goals in two 1-1 draws but the others had one 1-1 and one 0-0, so Italy were ahead on goals scored.

See, I thought that when the head to heads were being used to separate three teams rather than two that there had to be two clear winners, ie if it was goal difference and you had two teams on +3 and one on +2 there would be two teams clearly better than the other. Whereas if there was one on +3 and two on +2 there was not and that it would move on to the next criteria. It seems that if there is one clear winner, they are counted as through and it then goes on to separate the remaining two teams. Even the UEFA wording wasn't clear that that was the case.

As for the Spain goal, I thought that was offside. Navas was offside when the ball was chipped through, and although Iniesta was on, there was no touch from a Croatia player to create a second 'phase' before Navas received the ball. Does one pass really constitute a whole different phase of play?

Anyway, it shouldn't have mattered as Corluka should have that ridiculously blatant penalty moments before. Shame for Croatia. I really hate Spain now. With the players they have they could play some really exhilarating football, but instead they just pass sideways 10,000 times. They've played about half their football so far without a striker. Fine, it works for them, but it's just so DULL.
