After watching the videos, I think he looks more like someone who could replace Parker, Huddlestone and Livermore in the squad rather than Caulker. He's got a touch of Dembele about him, the way he ghosts past players and he looks great at interceptions as well, but not really a CB.

If we sign him, I'd expect the above midfield 3 to be sold and a different CB to be brought it to replace Caulker.

Threw in Caulker as he can also play CB but essentially the point is that this 1 player can do the job of all 4 of those mentioned and therefore relieve us of their wages. Quality and compact squad, nice!

Thank fuck it looks like we are signing this guy. For a while there I was worried that we would not be able to field a team of 10 midfielders.

Not quite done yet according to itk, lol really...
Wasn't even happening according to the ITK silence yesterday! Still nobody has details.

The fact Cardiff bid and were in suggests we are moving quickly and that it will be resolved quickly too.

Transfer News: Toulouse have confirmed they are close to finalising a deal with Spurs for Etienne Capoue

Etienne Capoue: Close to Spurs deal
Toulouse chairman Olivier Sadran has confirmed that they are close to finalising a deal with Tottenham for Etienne Capoue.
Spurs have moved to seal a deal for the French international midfielder after Cardiff and Atletico Madrid made bids last month.
Capoue now looks set to be the latest capture for Tottenham this summer, following on from the signings of Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado.
Sadran is quoted by L'Equipe: "We have almost found an agreement with Tottenham.
"There are still a few details to sort out, but you won't take big risk if you say he will go there."
Reports in France claim Capoue will be handed a four-year deal at White Hart Lane and that his signing could be concluded by this weekend.

So far this has been a pretty bizarre window for me (or maybe it just feels that way as I've been up writing since 11:30 AM yesterday). Before the window opened I thought we could really do with a player that could cover both Sandro and Dembele, whilst ideally offering something a bit different. I didn't know much about Paulinho but several posters on here soon convinced me that he fits the bill perfectly.

After that, my ideal striker was Soldado. I didn't think he was remotely realistic. We got linked with Villa (who I fucking love), but at the same time I was concerned about his age. Then we were linked with the Belgian Heskey, but fortunately that flash in the pan was quickly put out. How we ended up getting Soldado I'll never know, and if it wasn't for the ongoing Bale bollocks I'd be cackling maniacally in the streets.

Capoue was also on my imaginary list, but never really though much of it. He's a classy player in my opinion and I'll be over the moon if we get him. The way AVB rotates his teams I don't think you could call him a back-up.

For the record the other players on my imaginary hit list included Isla, Lamela, and Belhanda.

Him and I'll have drowned SW london in jizz. Its okay though as they're mostly Chelsea, Brentford & QPR fans

Ryan mentioned yesterday that we had moved quickly on a signing, he didn`t mention any names but could have been hinting at this I guess.

That`ll be the payment plan then......

ScoutNation has uploaded a video of him.. always makes great videos so thought I'd post it so others can have a look at him

While Capoue looks like a fantastic squad addition (esp if replacing Parker), we need to hire their set-piece coach, some seriously creative plays in that video!

interesting article on Capoue.........seems a lot more to his game then I first thought. I like the Soldado connection.

http://soccerlens.com/scouting-etienne-capoue-perfect-foil-for-roberto-soldado/113459/

The 24-year-old is primarily a defensive midfielder but can play in the central midfield as well. He has also played as a central defender for the French outfit.
Alain Casanova, the manager of Toulouse has used mainly four formations last season, of which he used the 4-1-4-1 formation for 31 times in the league. In that system, Capoue played as a defensive midfield volante, acting as a fulcrum between the quartet of defence and attack.
When used in a 3-5-2 formation and 4-3-3, Capoue mainly played as a defender in those games, pairing besides Serge Aurier and Aymen Abdennour respectively.
Spurs will be getting a versatile player, who can fill both the roles here. He could be asked to fill up the role left by young Steven Caulker and also as a stop-gap if first choice defenders Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul get injured.
But, he could be best used in the midfield. Spurs have an avalanche of central midfielders in their squad, though few players are expected to leave in the summer like Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone. He is a different type of midfielder, who could actually get the best out of new signing, striker Roberto Soldado.
Sandro and Paulinho are defensive minded and they are not meant to add creative spark to the side. Dembele has good dribbling skills but he mainly plays out short passes and sprinkles those out wide in the flanks.
Soldado is a typical volley-master striker, who needs long through balls to show out best volleying skills. If one scans through his top goals at Valencia, one could easily chalk out the pattern – he scores great goals through volleys, finds gap in the box brilliantly, gets the right end of an intelligent through balls and meets crosses perfectly.
Capoue’s main strength lies in passing. He is very adept in playing through balls and long passes. Last season, he made 2171 passes in the entire season, out of which 373 were long passes attempted. Dembele, who is arguably more creative than others in Spurs midfield, attempted only 108 long balls.
Therefore, Capoue should be in theory the perfect foil for Soldado. But more than anything else, Spurs are getting a quality player, who can be used at various positions.
The signing of Capoue clearly shows that Andre Villas-Boas has chalked out his plans nicely. With him, on pen and paper, Spurs would look a very dangerous team, should the deal go through.

Yeah why bother buying midfielders when we got midfielders... Even if they are better than some of the ones we have got

I don't think Cardiff were "in". At least, not beyond agreeing a fee with Toulouse.

Capoue apparently made it quite clear that he wasn't interested in signing for them.
