All our CBs, including Romero, are bad at dealing with super slow crosses. It's funny and sad at the same time.

Unbelievably bad today. Genuinely shit.
And remember he plays in the centre of our defence, he is the one who should be marshalling the defenders left and right of him and covering for this if they get caught out - his position is the crux of our defensive system. His best time for us was about an 18 month period at CDM under Poch - but he didn't really want to play there, he has said himself he thinks his best position is in central defence. Do you think Pep would put up with a player like him in central defence year after year?

Get back to 4 at the back, spend whatever it takes to get Gvardiol and Guehi or Hincape and finally get rid of Dier, Sanchez and Tanganga. Nothing against Dier personally, he's decent, but we just can't move on until we upgrade these bang average players.

Yeah this is a good assessment. We have too many players that have ridden on the coat tails of truly great players. The problem is we’ve all known it was the case for 3-4 years but they are still treated as important squad members. If anyone ever mentioned Dier in the same sentence as Toby or Jan I would feel offended, the gulf in class is that astronomical

England international, great mentality. Had a good season in midfield once, about 4/5/6 seasons ago!?

Dier, while he may be good at some things, sometimes, has the focus of a goldfish. His decision making is terrible. He’s hesitant. That costs us on so many occasions. He is at the heart of incompetence and mediocrity of this team. He is a leak in this ship that needs to be fixed. These managers expect him to be a commanding rock at the back pushing the team forward but he's not that player and he never will be. Look at how Romero was telling him off tonight. For me, he is the first piece of the puzzle which needs replacing, should we go through anything of a rebuild. Was a decent midfielder while him and Dele were having a bromance but it's been nothing but failure with him at CB since.

Poch knew he was a busted flush and was happy to take the money and reinvest. Every manager since then has inexplicably rated him and it’s gotten us nowhere.

Offering him a new contract is rewarding mediocrity.

Said it in the Levy thread but simply being a good pro is only handy when you have 10 brilliant winners alongside you.

Fergie had these and when he left some of these became mainstays in the 11. But very quickly were found out for the lack of elite talent they had. They became a liability.

Dier falls under this category. Alongside Toby, Jan and Dembele he looks decent.

As the main man alongside Sanchez, Lenglet or Davies and he doesn't inspire he causes more panic

Are we actually offering him a contract? That's bonkers if so

The Walcott goal. 1 in 40, 34 year old Walcott. Dier inexplicably drifts off him to take up a completely dumb position on the goal line. Wtf?

You’re playing everyone onside if you do this from what was an ordinary floated cross.

There was another ridiculous bit of defending on 56 mins where he didn’t anticipate and drop off.

Pub defender.

I know I do not get it. He was the only one any where near Walcott and just runs away.

You’d think working alongside one of the worlds best strikers day in day out would progress your defenders to learn and improve daily whilst up against them in training, Evidently not.

He will get that new contract as it means Levy hasnt got to replace him with a more expensive player. We cant keep rewarding mediocrity and 'nice guys.'
