our best defender in toby sits on the bench and this guy continues to play. i dont like wishing injuries on players but dier needs to sod off with some random injury and stop being our main centre back hes shit end off.

Thought he was poor tonight, his passing is atrocious, I feel like he has one or two good moments a game which paper over the cracks.

I get the feeling that Dier could have turned the corner as a CB if he had a few years at a Burnley or West Ham where he just got his head behind it and learned some of the defending dark arts to muscle memory.

Instead his formative years were as a DM and he’s turned into an oddly pieced together player at age 27. His defensive instincts and timing are consistently suspect, and while he does look imperious in the air at times he will never be good at defending a bouncing ball or one into no-man’s land. Bizarrely his range of passing has gone completely by the wayside, he is comfortably our worst passer of the starting XI. To top that off he’s just not a leader, he doesn’t have confidence that he is a top CB and never will at this point.

I feel bad for him more than I dislike him. But simply not good enough.

Yeah I really like him as a bloke. Think he loves Tottenham too. But ultimately there's always been limits there.

He is absolutely horrendous in the air. Has no vertical leap and no timing. Your point about his formative years being at DM is a good one though. He’s been a victim of his own versatility and no he isn’t really anything. Toby needs to come back into the first XI ASAP.

Not really sure what his best position is, if he even has one.

Definitely shouldn't be a starter if we want to actually build a solid defense.

Always said this guy will be Mourinho's downfall, as he can't seem to see any wrong in him, should be nowhere near a side wanting top 4. Yet he plays every game, and even takes the free-kicks!

No concentration, poor decisions. Needs to be filed alongside the likes of Nethercott, Kevin Scott, Vlad Chiriches and gotten rid of. Rather West Ham's CB's than this oaf. We seem to hang on to players who are clearly not up to for far too long.

eric the fridge hoping the fa look back at his incident last season running into the crowd and judge it as aggressive and threatening behaviour and ban him for 10 games

a Mourinho favourite. for those of us hoping to never see him as a starting centre back for this club again, he will be the last of our defenders to be replaced. we’re stuck with him for the foreseeable.

Just not good enough, too many mistakes, consistently gives ball away when pressured, can’t judge the flight of a ball and gets out jumped by midgets. Sadly feel like we will always buckle under pressure when Dier is in the defence.

You are really making a lot of strong and mostly poor comments against our players. Try and make sense or explain clearly with something more thought out. Or just lurk

Not good enough. Unfortunately him playing in midfield for us for so long has meant he hasn't developed his game at CB and it shows.27 years old and he still has fundamental flaws in his game which I don't see changing. Doesn't read the game in the head particularly well, concentration levels are so poor. Would be happy for him to be shown the door in the summer.

And following the error caused by the buckling, we are then treated to a theatrical masterpiece which consists of Dier throwing his arms in the air and the following that intro by pointing at players and imaginary obstructions and closing the Noh drama with a well timed scrunch of the face to really sell the indignation. Get's me every time.
