What position is he then?
He is a shit DM, shit CM and a shit AM.
He isn’t shit, quite the opposite.

I see an increased clamouring for a return of Dier (esp in the Poch thread for some reason). The Dier of the pre-Man U head turning days would be perfect.
But seriously since then he has suffered from any combination of a lack of focus/injuries and illnesses/weight gain and being increasingly immobile. He’s not the same player as is the same with Wanyama. When he plays now I seem to spend my time counting how often he points rather than his football.
He’s far from crap. Just find it odd that he’s being raised as some form of saviour from the crap we’re seeing at the moment.

I largely agree with what you're saying but I want him back in the team anyway. Tactically we're a mess at the moment, and having a genuine DM (especially one adept at dropping into a back three) would give greater cover the the CBs and allow them to split out wide, taking away some of the space on the flanks that is currently being exploited. Dier may not be anywhere near the level of a top DM on current form, but at least it'd give us some semblance of solidity.I see an increased clamouring for a return of Dier (esp in the Poch thread for some reason). I know what you're saying but he's best when he's asked to sit in front of a back four, cover the defence and give the ball forward. He's not good when asked to do more, give a range of passing, attack or shoot at goal.
My worry is, Poch will keep the formation but play Dier in a role he's not suited for and he will have a poor game because of it and also being rusty.
He doesn’t really do this well though which was one of the reasons I wasn’t bothered when he was out of the team and I have this feeling was one of the reasons Poch changed things.
Problem is it’s become apparent that the other aspects of Dier’s play were important to the way the whole team played, especially the full backs. I’m surprised Poch hasn’t realised this and made signing a proper DM a priority, but maybe that’s his stubborn streak or maybe he does want to sign one, but thinks we can make do until future transfer windows? Or maybe he just thinks we need to run harder and faster?
I think he wants to play (or turn) Winks into a DM. He wants one that can pass and move the ball. When we didn't get De Jong he's used Winks to do that instead. A bit silly really, I like Winks as a player, but sometimes you need more than what he gives there.

Need him badly
Looked like he'd forgotten how to play football in the 1st half. His touch was fcking horrendous, and looked slow. Got zero help from Ndombele and co. though.
