After a shaky start, Spurs have kept three consecutive clean sheets in the league and boast the second best defensive record in the top flight after six matches, with just six goals shipped so far.

Dier – rangy, strong and and excellent in the air – has undobtedly been an important part of Spurs' newfound defensive solidarity.
We've only conceded four goals. One of them was a penalty and another an own goal.

Have to admit, I was worried about our lack of DM signings in the summer.

Rings true, that there is no point just signing a DM if it doesn't improve out team, and with Poch's move for Eric to be put in the middle - not going to lie, he's been superb. I know Alli is getting the plaudits, but Dier is up there, consistantly good, strong, doesn't get bullied, breaks up play....

Probably my favourite player at the moment, wonderful to watch for a DM.

Defensive signings have led to a more assured back line in comparison to last season. However, Dier being played at CM, from what I have seen, has added that additional defensive capability to a leaky back line. As you say, he breaks up play and his tackling is excellent. (No, I cannot be bothered to trawl stats, I see it when watching games). He has already improved the team.

The more rounded side of being a CM will come to Dier. He has already proven that he knows how to go forwards when he was playing at RB last season. It just needs that eureka moment to realise that he can find that incisive pass and doesn't just have to give it away to the CM2 partner / nearest bod. However, the main role that he is in the team for, is already excellent.

I just think he should be given a chance to evolve without such hard scrutiny.

Obviously he isnt going to play like a complete CM right now but i would say there has been a decent progression from one game to the next and maybe he can push on and even surprise himself.

I think he deserves any plaudits he gets right now - he hasnt thrown his toys out the pram or had any kind of hissy fit despite playing half his games for us out of his preferred position and he even began to impress with his crossing and vision as a right back.

Did a lovely crossfield pass at one point in the palace game

Well written article...but, me being a bit picky maybe, I do not toally agree with this:"From the moment he arrived at Spurs, as an unknown foreign yet domestic import..." Me, and a few others on this board, had mentioned him at least a year before he signed for Spurs. Maybe Poch already then was reading posts on this forum ;)
Besides, he forgot that both Souness and Keegan did very well playing "over-seas".

He's a centreback when we defend, an anchorman when we have possession and a goalscorer when we need one. An all-in-one player.

There's only 1 eric dier and he's ours.

Box to Box.

Been out of the top 2 in the match rankings threads in the last 5-6 games?

Levy - with the help of a astute move by Poch - have turned form zero to hero after not "getting" Spurs the 20-25M DM that so many Spurs fans wanted
Son Njie will be seen as a better buy than Martial :D

Brilliant, again - getting better with minutes in DM, allows our attacking five to play their game as well. I think he's now one of our most important players.

Hodgson was at the Lane today. Hope he was paying attention to this boy. England don't have a proper tackler in the midfield and he's already looking years ahead of Phil bloody Jones in DM.

Dier being 74 in FIFA 16 is one of the biggest crimes against humanity this decade, if not ever.

Dier will be in the England squad in the next few months without a doubt as will Alli.
