Roy Hodgson heaped praise upon Tottenham duo Dele Alli and Eric Dier after they made their debuts in the England starting XI against France on Tuesday night.
Alli scored a wonderful 25-yard strike five minutes before half time while Dier did well to keep the threats of the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Paul Pogba quiet.
Alli was also the one who robbed Pogba of the ball to spark the attack that led to Wayne Rooney’s goal and Hodgson admitted he wanted to take the former MK Dons youngster off so the crowd could give him his standing ovation.
“He was fantastic,” said the England manager.
“It was great that I could have the luxury of bringing him off with five minutes left to play so the crowd could show their appreciation.
“I thought apart from his goal, his whole performance throughout the game was first class, and the same applies to Eric Dier.
“Here we have two guys – both of whom having very little experience in the Premier League, both making their debut from the start, but they’ve played the game like they were playing in the England team for as long as we can remember.”
