I’m shocked that after 23 years of winning fucking nothing there are still ‘fans’ willing to give ENIC their backing.
Fuck me.

All it took was yet another late signing for the levy apologists/levysexuals to come out. This late signing is a player that a relegation candidate wanted (not saying he is a bad player btw or will be one)

People consistently go back to money spent when the decision making is a lot of the reason why people have misgivings about the current ownership.
I think you're right that a lot of people have concerns about certain decisions, and the general direction/strategy for the club (myself included). It would be great to be able to talk about those things constructively.

I guess the money thing is just something that is easy for Sky Sports etc. to package into a 90-second segment... a nice graphic of the top 6 net spend, then Carragher can say something like "you have to spend to win these days" followed by Roy Keane saying "it's not about the money, it's about the desire", then segue into what's up next and go to adverts.

It completely misses the point of anything, but it got them 90 seconds of TV. So the trend (content that is easy to create and simple to understand) spills onto websites and radio stations, and before you know we have a tonne of data added to the lies, damned lies and statistics world, with an audience of millions ready to lap it up.

The strategy issue is interesting because I'm not entirely sure what people would expect. A strategy should be a medium to long term thing, and ideally shouldn't be changing all that often (in my view). So if we get an annual statement from the club saying what the strategy is, does that not satisfy people? As a genuine question, is it that people think that strategy isn't detailed enough, or is it that it isn't frequent enough? Or something else?

I do wonder if some fans have an expectation of the club publicising a list of specific players at the start of every transfer window, and think that's what a strategy looks like. Or perhaps seeing some of the changes of direction from the club equate to a strategy not existing, which I actually think shows the opposite. But interesting to get some aspects on that.

The thing with the media is that they aren't generally interested in any deep and meaningful analysis of what is happening at any one particular club because a) they don't have time and b) a lot of what we watch, read and listen to is very 'tabloid' orientated, which suits a lot of people who are just interested in the latest soundbytes.

We all hear presenters on radio programmes or on match day on TV and think 'what a load of bollocks', as they have missed certain facts out as either they didn't do their research or it doesn't suit the narrative. Unfortunately, it just feeds the knee jerk reactions and that sense of short termist approach that pervades football. That doesn't obviously excuse the poor decision making that the club has made. I think that what people want to know is that there is a plan and that the club are sticking with it (obviously aside from generating revenue).

The recent undercurrent of negativity over the style of football doesn't help (although I have noticed that a lot of people on here who want Conte out are not particularly anti ENIC or Levy and would probably be satisfied merely with a change of coach and style) and obviously the issue with Paratici is adding fuel to the fire, particularly with people worrying that if he does go then we're going to be set back to the days of Levy and the transfer committee.

Agree and for me, that's why the problem is Levy and not ENIC.
Given the simple nature of this poll, I did vote out but explained early in the thread what my actual stance was.
We've spent a fair old whack but much of it has been wasted and with no real direction, which falls on Levy's head, not ENIC.

We don't need this sort of name calling, it just gets people's backs up and turns discussion into argument.
It's all a bit "Arsenal" during the whole Arteta in/out thing.

As Someone had posted earlier in this thread - it’s just throwing the dogs a bone to keep them at bay.

Typical Levy

I know that's just one little quote from Jose but it does say a lot about us.
Wouldn't stretch to a whopping 10m for Kim?
When you look at how much we've wasted on the likes of Clarke (even though I was convinced he'd come good), Rodon and even Sess (ditto Clarke), we wouldn't take a punt on someone who has proved their potential.
Our scouting and decision making sucks.

Mourinho fired April 2021, Kim signs for Fenerbahçe Aug 2021.

I think he got the club wrong. Meant the Chinese club he was playing for if I recall.

He went for 5m Euro in China in 2019, then 3m Euro in 2021 to Fenerbahce :sneaky:

Here's why this debate is becoming pointless because people are just using anything to try and make ENIC look bad, never mind taking a few seconds to check the facts or that Mou might have an anti-Spurs agenda himself.

We were first linked with him in 2020 and were linked pretty much every window til he went to Napoli.

But he hadn't proven his potential when we were linked with him at that time. 10m on a guy in his mid 20s playing in China would have been a pretty big punt. I don't blame the club for not wanting to take it.

Maybe i'm wrong but i seem to remember most on here being pretty apathetic about any deal for him at the time.

Every owner and manager in football has a long list of players they regret passing up on. ENIC are hardly unique here.

Also if he had signed for us and possibly played second fiddle would he have ever reached that potential.

If what's and maybes are well and good, but the path taken is the only one reality shows.

He wasn't in his mid twenties then though, more early twenties.
Enic aren't unique in missing out on talent but their recent record is pretty bad, not to mention Levy constantly thinking he knows more about football than the manager he's out in place.
