He wasn't in his mid twenties then though, more early twenties.
Enic aren't unique in missing out on talent but their recent record is pretty bad, not to mention Levy constantly thinking he knows more about football than the manager he's out in place.

Fair enough, he was like 23/4. My point is that most people here didn't think it was worth taking a punt on a guy that age playing in china, so i think it's a bit unfair to be angry at the club for setting a price limit on any transfer for him.

Most clubs go through patchy transfer periods. Again, not something unique to ENIC at all. We've had lots of pretty good transfers under them as well.

so I don't really get what point you are trying to make?

That I'm not angry we didn't sign Kim for 10m Euros when nobody else would pay more than 5.2m.

That Mourinho is dropping anti-Spurs snarks these days, this one is factually wrong, so I wouldn't too much attention to that.

I'm happy we signed Romero instead.

and I'm bored with this debate.

I think Jose may have got the timeline confused but I don't think he's telling porkies.

And wasn't it Rodon we signed instead, not Romero?

I had a quick search in the transfer forum.
One that I looked at said we had concerns about how many games he could miss with call ups (I'm sure we made deals with Son playing some and missing some) and that Romero and a few others were higher on the list because of this.

Mourinho fired April 2021, Kim signs for Fenerbahçe Aug 2021.
He isn't lying though. He did want him and we did look at him. I remember Hitch was keen on him at one point also.

I'm not sure on the timeline, but I remember posting about it at the time.

And the club chose Rodon then by the looks of it... (rhetorically speaking).

If thats the case then it seemed like we had a choice of;

Skriniar
Him
or Rodon

And we chose Rodon, probably cause Levy and co bad insight to him, due to the guy who came to Spurs from Swansea (forgot who it was now) and probably cause we knew the fee that would work.

Haha Skriniar, Kim or Rodon and we get Rodon. FFS, let’s at least get it right this summer.

Also in summer we bought early, Conte message of the importance of doing business early got through, but January we have reverted back too most important is saving few pennies last minute vs helping manager win 3 games we lost in January, again smells like Levy. Definitely room for some criticism Porro or not.
Hopefully we get some early signings in the summer. Maybe I'm being way too optimistic, but some of our reported targets (e.g. Skriniar) are currently running down contracts, so in theory we could be agreeing terms now (I'm not aware of any ITK inferring that we're actually doing this though )

I'm not convinced that we ever had a realistic chance of signing Porro before Sporting's cup final. I accepted last week that, if we do sign him, it won't be announced until at least Sunday.

The recent undercurrent of negativity over the style of football doesn't help (although I have noticed that a lot of people on here who want Conte out are not particularly anti ENIC or Levy and would probably be satisfied merely with a change of coach and style) and obviously the issue with Paratici is adding fuel to the fire, particularly with people worrying that if he does go then we're going to be set back to the days of Levy and the transfer committee.
I agree with everything you're saying, but particularly with the Paratici sentiment. I personally think there has been a very different MO under Paratici, and if he does get put out to pasture - either permanently or for 36 months - I don't have confidence in Levy making the deals we need. However, I'm certainly not going to assume the worst and take out my sky falling insurance just yet!

There will be a strategy in place, although I can certainly see the confusion. On the one hand we have Levy saying we want to play attacking football and focus on developing young talent, then we go and hire Conte! I actually think Conte is more of a Paratici move than anything to do with Levy... which I would say is a good thing in terms of Levy having less control, but does cause a contradiction.

There are definitely a lot of fans who are just bored/frustrated/angry/whatever with results at the club that they would take any change, even if it resulted in worse performance. And that feeling leads to equating Spence not playing to Spurs having no transfer policy (and other examples), whilst ignoring the success and the recent change in MO. There's obviously more than one failure in terms of recruitment, but there are also plenty of successes, and I suppose I don't buy the "everything is awful" line.

One way or another, I get the impression ENIC will be gone within 3 years anyway. There seems to be a lot of talk about new investors, and a lot of personnel hires already that would allow for Levy etc. to bugger off without a new owner worrying that the club would stall. It feels inevitable.

Yes, you are probably right. Strange, because originally in the conference Mourinho did not mention anything about Fenerbache.

I found a recording of the conference with translation and Fenerbache added Fraud Romano himself in the tweet. That's why this story looked funny.
