Game over in what way? Game over for the transfer? Game over he's on his way?
Seen this so many times being a club saving face after lots of noise. Not saying it will or won’t but it can’t be taken as negative until we know the outcome.

edit: this is why I should read further comments 😂

If we can’t get Taps I wonder if Laporte comes back into our thinking, reports linking him with Palace the last couple days, surely he’s a better player than that.

The Ange quotes about "at least one" CB were quite worrying. Made me think the club reckon Tosin alone might be enough.

I might be misremembering , but didn't AP mention two CB's in his previous press conference, expectations tempered perhaps or maybe he's just resigned to being left short already..

No he didn’t specifically say two last time.
He said the areas identified earliest for signing were goalkeeper and central defence and we’re currently working on those signings.
No specific number given.
And ‘at least one’ isn’t implying it’s just one at all.

I think he’s just trying to avoid throwing any players under the bus on his good-vibes preseason evaluation tour. Ostensibly he’s still getting players up to fitness and deciding who can play a role for him. If he just comes out and says “no mate I need two new CBs, maybe three, ours are total garbage” then what the hell have we dragged Joe Rodon halfway around the world for? He’s really avoided saying anything that reflects negatively on any of the players on tour, he’s barely even admitted that Davidson could leave and apparently we’ve accepted a bid for him. I think that will slowly change once we are back and more players receive his blessing to leave.

There we fucking go, that's why we needed to wrap this up before Diaby left for Villa alleviating the need for further sales of top players for Leverkusen.
Or just you know - considering Leverkusen play with 3 centerbacks and they only have 4 nominal cbs at their squad, Wirtz fully recovered from injury, they bought Hofmann earlier who is right winger and with additional signings of Xhaka and Boniface now Adli can be more focussed to play as RW they always wanted to sell Diaby and not Tapsoba

Quite clearly they were open to negotiations, that's patently obvious.

This is purely my gut feeling, based on 15-odd years of following Spurs transfer guff online, but the noises surrounding this transfer have made it always seem quite unlikely to me.

From the very beginning top German reporters were saying he was a key player for Leverkusen, an important character in the dressing room, and someone they had no intention of selling. And since then we've basically had no indication that things were progressing at all beyond Fab Romano saying we're "working on it". Now those initial messages have been reiterated by Leverkusen themselves, which hardly bodes well for us.

Usually by this point in a saga there's some kind of progress or a hint that we're getting closer on the fee, but this time there's been absolutely nothing. Just a sense that we're trying to very slowly chip away at the asking price behind the scenes and Leverkusen aren't relenting.

I think the only way this happens is if we sell Kane and end up making an offer Leverkusen can't refuse - probably around 55m or something. VdV seems eminently more likely given we've literally flown him over, he was impressed by Ange, and Wolfsburg seem far more willing to deal.
