I don't think that makes much sense - the jet lag on a 13-hour flight alone would make training, let alone playing, pretty difficult in such a short turnaround.

Then to turn around and fly 13+ hours back on Wednesday - its just unnecessary distractions when the primary focus at this stage will be building up fitness.

It's not the end of the world to miss the tour. It's a long season, and it's undoubtedly better to build the fitness foundation properly, and then build in the tactics, and player partnerships later.

If you can get the player out there by Tuesday - then fine - they get a week with the squad and time to adjust to the time zones, but if not, better to stay and train.
He would still be out there for about 2 weeks so will be fine

The whole squad won’t be there for 2 weeks. They wrap up the entire tour 13 days from today…
Maybe a new signing would get 1 and a half weeks but that's still enough. If it's any less than that probably not worth it though. They pretty much need to be signed and then fly out over the weekend or Monday for it to be worthwhile.

This could be an issue

Came here to say the same exact thing. Have posted it a few times in this thread already so sorry for the repetition but this just allows Leverkusen to dig in further if it gets completed before Tapsoba.

EDIT: also would love us to look at Diaby... lol

Agreed Diaby is the one they will need to sell now with 2 years on his contract. Tapsoba they could wait a few more years with no pressure

Anyone know why Tapsoba is is none of the pre season stuff on their insta? Is it just a case of him not being back?

Mate - I am not trying to be pedantic here but you suggested they fly to Bangkok for the Saturday game - that's a 13-hour flight, they would fly back after the 2nd game on Wednesday - a player would be there for 4-5 days, most of which will be struggling with jet lag.

At that point - its just better to skip those 5 days with the team, get the fitness work done at Hotspur Way, and then integrate with the team.

Its not two week, or even 10 days - its over on July 26 - getting out there on July 22 is just too much travel in too short a period of time.

Now here come the travel/jet lag experts 😂
actually, you can get over a 12 hour jet lag pretty easily but there are some tricks to it. the main thing is to get outside the first "day", all day and then crash at 7-9 PM and sleep for 8-10 hours. then, you'll have some ups and downs the next few days but they won't last all that long. Now a supplement of ............

Back to the real story. The value of having the player travel in this case is that its a new coach and it's more important to get the player up to speed mentally. he can still train on the road even if it is less effective but he'll need to absorb both the information and expectations of the new coach.

Come on I never said anything like the 22nd July. I said if he leaves a few days later in time for the 2nd and 3rd game then it's fine. As long as he's there no later than Tuesday otherwise there's no point. I imagine the team fly back end of the following week so would be a week and a half which is good time.

It’s Friday and it’s obvious that we will not have a new CB travelling with the team on the pre season tour. Which is, in diplomatic terms, not ideal. In so many ways.

According to all the ITKs it looks like we’re going for VdV, and not Tapsoba. Nor are we going for both.

IMHO after seeing all the stats, I would defo have preferred Tapsoba as the #1 choice. He seems to be much more of a finished article and ready to make an impact from the go. Don’t know enough about any of the two to say who’s got the highest ceiling, though. But we need someone to come in and be our first choice left side CB. Neither Dier nor Davies are able to play in a 4. Neither Tanganga nor Rodon has the quality, and Sanchez is damaged goods I think (a personal favourite, but sometimes you have to let your dreams go).

We are in desperate need of a starting CB. Comfortable to play on the left side of a pairing. And we equally need a minimum of one more to cover. For me that is Tapsoba AND VdV. But Tapsoba first.

It’s fair to discuss the merits of a potential signing joining a pre-season tour. Relevant, and if folks want to debate it, fine. I recognize your post was in jest and this is not really directed at you, it’s a common theme on here.

I don’t get the desire to police what we can and cannot talk about, as long as posts are on-topic and inoffensive. I blame A&C ;)

the reports are all over the place no guarantees on who we will end up with as some ITKs say one of VDV and Tapsoba and some say going for both depending on outgoings etc etc... other names also linked, I am trying not to think about it to be honest or it will annoy me..

We should be signing Diaby from them too.

Hijack Villa and offer €100m euros for Diaby and Tapsoba.

Then spend a few weeks selling Hojbjerg, Gil, Lo Celso, Perisic, Reguilon, Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon etc before getting another CB.
Yes, this will work because we have such a great track record of selling everyone we need to sell 🤣

Or Skriniar. #lessons learned
I think having VDV ‘lined up’ is the lesson learned from both Skriniar and Bastoni. We have a player ready that will improve our first 11. We’re just trying to sign a better one first.

everyone says they’d prefer Tap… it seems so does the club. I want a new CB or two with the team this second as much as the next person, but transfers aren’t simple. Even Rice, Arsenal threw stupid money and it still took weeks. Let’s not lose our shit on July 15th.
