I think we should get VdV signed up as it’s an easy deal to do and then put all our focus in to selling the likes of Hojbjerg, Sanchez, Tanganga, Sessegnon, Rodon and Reguilon as this will raise the funds which allow us to go in for Tapsoba over the coming weeks.

That way we get a CB in quickly now for the tour but still end up with both which is key to a top quality window imo.
Almost the exact point I made last night
I think many/most of us would be quite happy with selling PEH and not buying a replacement if it meant we could get both VDV and Tapsoba

However, if I was managing this I'd pull the trigger on VDV now if possible (following the BBC article which will surely make Todd Booooly look up from cleaning his transfer machine gun + also, though I doubt this is a massive issue, he has any worries about getting games).

I'd then assume that I could generate enough funds to also buy Tapsoba, by (further) discounting if I had to, PEH, GLC, Sanchez, Rodon, Tanganga, Reggie or Sess. If BL are pushing for such a high price then it seems unlikely that anybody else will steam in and do a deal without us matching it

Unless the calculation is that we need to sell ALL of them at good prices to be able to afford both CBs - which I really doubt

Also worth mentioning that BL have just agreed a £20m+ fee for Xhaka from Arse. I would imagine that's most of their budget, without selling, so they will probably need to come to the table ultimately. So we really should get VDV in now and work on the outgoings if we need to to get Tapsoba over the line

What concerns me is , everyone knows who our main central defender targets are . If. We keep messing about we won’t end with either VDV or this guy . Make a decision! One or the other or ideally both . Get them in ready for the start of pre season

just go and pay Leverkusen and put on 5 more Beyonce concerts, don't see what the problem is.
Ha ha

Jokes aside, we are unable to use the non-footballing related revenue on footballing expenditure such as transfers. Which is just as well as it is other clubs, as we know, who would take advantage of that rather than us

However what we can use it on is to pay off the stadium debt and for further capital investment like the training ground, hotel next to the stadium, this go-karts idea etc. Since the club swapped the vast stadium debt for loans (at ~2.5% IIRC) then probably the first 3-4 events per year pay that interest.

You also probably get a lot of economies of scale when you add 1-2 x Rugby, 2 x NFL, 1 x boxing and perhaps 7+8 concerts per year to about 25 home games. Millions more beers and a lot more food. Which lowers costs for the footballing side meaning you make more football related profit.

A lot of fans of other clubs seem to think we are drowning in debt but it couldn't be further from the truth

Anyway, sorry back to to Tapsoba. Who we really should be able to afford

We can. But it's about getting value for the rebuild.

With minimal funds from outgoings right now. That'll come likely whilst a lot of the team are away on the preseason tour.

If we can’t get both Tapsoba and VDV over the line, then I hope the links to Itakura are true and pick up steam - looks like a real talent.

I thought Concerts, Rugby, NFL etc was revenue into the club?? At least that’s what was suggested by Levy when they built the stadium?

The less money the football side has to pump into paying debts the more it has to spend on the squad etc. Eventually every penny the club receives from the football side, for example the TV money, ticket sales, merchandise and catering at the stadium is used on the football side. Things like stadium maintenance, external developments infrastructure projects can be paid for by the non football events. Which can only be a good thing in the long run.

So although that non football related profit will not go into the transfer budget directly it massively helps out in the short/medium term.

FYI Bayer forums are discussing a £45m (€53m) fee for Tapsoda as the figure they’d be happy with.
We paid €42m for Sanchez six years ago and €50m for Romero with Juve in a financial crisis. This is the going rate for top CB prospects and we should absolutely be willing to pay it.
