We all know we’re never going to bring in 3 quality CBs if we sell Romero, so I think it’s madness to sell him.

So we sell Romero and bring in both Tapsoba and MvdV, we’d still be an injury away from Dier et al seeing significant game time.

We should be looking to add two quality CBs to our squad as is, not selling our only one that’s the standard required.

Also on this, let’s say we get £50mil for Cuti and £35mil for Hojbjerg.

We can turn that into £25mil for VdV, £40mil for Tapsoba and £20mil for Toisin. There’s the revolution we were talking about!
That's not revolution, that is insanity.

Romero is class and Hoijberg has been consistently good since he's been here.

Selling two players who are experienced in the Premier league and are regarded as two of our better performers and replacing them with 3 young unexperienced players is nuts.

I'm all for selling our squad players, but if we start selling our first 11 we are going the wrong way.

Romero may be class, but he also is rumoured to want out. In any case I don't see he has a long-term future here because I don't think he wants one.

It's not really fair to categorise Tapsoba as "young and unexperienced" - he's 9 months younger than Romero, and has played 137 games for Leverkusen.

With respect to Hojbjerg - he doesn't appear to fit Ange's system particularly well, and in any case, we have Bentancur, Bissouma and Sarr - two of whom are almost certainly better and have higher ceilings.

When we're in the middle of a rebuild - which we certainly are - you can't just rely on shipping out the shite on the fringes to fund the needed spending. If the time is right to let Romero and Hojbjerg go while they can command big fees, then we should do it.

I think we could realistically get upwards of £90m for the pair. If we can, we should.

Would anyone take both Tapsoba and VdV and Romero was sold?

🤔

yes, I would. Probably in the minority.

Post-World Cup he has been phoning it in, and I think an uncommitted Romero is a liability. He’s a good footballer, undoubtedly. But if we get very good money for him, I would not think twice regarding selling him, assuming we have Tapsoba and VDV lined up at decent prices. The whole tactical structure needs to be reworked, so it’s an ideal time to rebuild the squad.

Exactly.

Our squad needs deep, deep surgery, not just in terms of ability but in terms of personalities and attitudes too.

That's not me casting aspersions on Romero or Hojbjerg as professionals, but if Ange sees them as dispensable and the club can get a good fee to reinvest in decent young players with good experience like Tapsoba, VDV, Tosin - then they can go.

Just as a reminder, in Pochettino's first year, we cut a LOT of first team players with tenure, as well as fringe players: Sigurdsson, Sandro, Livermore, Naughton, Dawson, Fryers, Holtby, Falque, Adebayor, Kaboul, Soldado, Chiriches, Assou-Ekotto, Gomes, Lennon, Friedel, Capoue, Paulinho, Townsend, Stambouli and Fazio.

I make that 21 departures / releases / retirements in basically two seasons.

We were certainly no worse off for it.

Romero out, Tapsoba in - if Ange so desires - is fine with me.

I've not read anywhere that Romero wants to leave, if that us true it does change things a little.

However, if we are considering buying 2 or 3 CBs, selling your current best CB is crazy.

Also, I may be alone in this thought, but I think Hoijberg would do fantastically as high pressing number 8.

As for Tapsoba, he is still young, especially for a CB, as is Romero.

And if I were to sell Romero it would be closer to 100m and not 50.

If the shit hits the fan this season we will need players like Romero and Hoijberg. There is a long list of players I'd sell before I get to those two.

Sure, but you wouldn't get the same money for them.

Sometimes you have to sell when someone's price is at a premium, rather than waiting for them to be old and knackered and impossible to shift.

I'd be more inclined to laugh at the thought of selling Romero if he didn't have the injury record he has.

We really need to get into this mindset. It's better to sell a year early than a year late. It will hurt sometimes, but ultimately we will be better for it.

I'm pretty sure those rumours were squashed pretty quickly on international duty, which is usually where the truth serum kicks in...

Juve have some very interesting players if this “ hypothetical “ selling of Romero were to occur and we could do some sort of swap deal. Chiesa, Vlahovic ( if we lose Kane) Bremer.

Oooh interesting. And personally, yes. Think Cuti at his best is brilliant, but he’s a bit of a liability at times, has struggled with staying fit and his prioritising being fit for his national team over the club is very frustrating. Also he’s nowhere near as strong on the ball as those two are.

BUT I’m only saying yes if we also bring Adarabioyo as a third option. Think that would be a very versatile, balanced defensive rebuild if so.

What if, big if, you could get Tapsoba, VDV and Gallagher for PEH and Romero? Would that be a good deal. It’s a difficult one but I also want players to be here who are fully committed.
It's not bad but we'd still need another CB.
We need to have three quality options there, buying two but selling the one we have still leaves us short.

Wouldn't be against Gallagher replacing Hojbjerg though.
