So? You're not really saying anything that disagrees with my argument. If anything City can afford to leave the black AMEX with a manager and let him get on with it.

Your right they can. They can do it anyway they want to because they have the money to make it work. We, on the other hand can't afford to keep overhauling the squad, paying compensation for managers and staff left, right and centre.

So to persist with a system that clearly undermines the manager over and over again seems daft to me.

I think it's important to remember that AVB asked for Baldini.

He wanted to coach and Baldini with all his experience and contacts could bring in the players while the head coach concentrates on the coaching. AVB has to take responsibility for not getting them to play.

Redknapp was similar to a DOF. He was the front man talking to the media, he was often advocating the transfer targets even if a couple weren't his choice and many reports say he wasn't on the training field that often.

Many said the same about Clough. He'd just turn up sporadically and do his magic but the coaches were the ones who took the training sessions.

The real question is regarding responsibility. When Jol didn't get the players he wanted he was fired and Commoli kept his job. Commoli only took responsibility once his suggested head coach was in charge.

I'm not really a fan of one over the other. If the club picks a manager like Ferguson or Wenger then great have him be in complete control. If he wants a Capello then a DOF. The club has to run the system properly. There's not one system that works and I don't believe English culture is a factor.

Aren't we the only club in the league along with Liverpool which has the DOF system? It's funny how Man U, scum, City and Chelsea seem to operate pretty well without it.

Every club has some sort of DoF, maybe only Wenger has the final say over who goes out / comes in

Ferguson obviously had it at Man Utd also but too much money involved and managers too busy to do everything - they will have an input but final say no.

Mike Forde / Michael Emenalo - Chelsea
Txiki Begiristain - Man City

Man Utd and Arsenal don't have any

Man United do have Woodward who actually does the deals though, rather than Moyes doing anything. One of the reasons cited for their bad window as his inexperience, as he's from a commercial background and only just replaced Gill.

Yeah, city does have one. Chelsea have a "Technical director", different title, do you know if he is responsible in a similar way to Baldini?
