It was Djed Spence’s spectacular performances for Nottingham Forest during the club’s successful promotion push that caught Tottenham‘s attention this summer, but as his new club prepares to face his old one on Sunday it seems unlikely that he will be involved at all.

Odd how Emerson never had to show patience to work his way into the side. I say give Spence a crack and see what he can do. Let's have a level playing field with regard to competing for places.

I do agree that we need fair competition for places... but we also have to find the balance between being competitive and rotating... the Premier League us so strong this season. And if we want to finish in the top 4 again then it's a fine line.

Spence has to look at Perisic (can play both WB's) and Sessegnon at the moment. Sessegnon has battled and worked hard under Conte. Improved and shown that he really wants to be better.

Right now Spence has to work hard, listen to Conte and take his chances in the cups or when he gets some minutes here and there. Time will tell.
Reguilon got axed for some reason... so Spence need to look and learn from Perisic and Sess.

The RWB position has been a problem for us. Still is... although Royal has improved IMO. That position has been a lottery for a while. The opportunities are there. But he has to show commitment and desire first and foremost.

Spence is up against Perisic and Sessegnon at the moment for that LWB place. Sessegnon has battled and worked hard under Conte. Improved and shown that he really wants to be better. Perisic is just class. From the beginning here.

The RWB position with Royal and Doherty is very different at the moment. And has been a problem for us. Still is although Royal has improved IMO. That position has been a lottery for a while.
Huh? Spence is a RWB. He's not competing with Sess or Ivan.

I can't wait to see Spence get integrated into the right full back position. I think he is going to do very well. He has the toolkit

Many players have the toolkit... they just need to realise what it takes to make it at a top club... hope Spence has it in him... he's an exciting talent ?

Confused why I got a WTF for saying Spence is a RWB. I mean he is just that, so why are you giving me that WTF?

The real wtf is why you needed to point that out in the first place. Easily the most drawn out transfer saga of the summer, and people didn’t know he was a right wing back. Good Lord.

league cup coming up. My guess is he will start in that game.
Wouldn't be surprised to see winks too, so it doesn't mean that much.
I don't see him getting much of a look-in other than the domestic cups, unless there are injuries.

Winks won't play for us again~ he's not training with the group!
Spence has to look at his mate Sess and listen to Ivan P. (and the coaching staff of course)

Once the window closes and if he's still here, then I dare say winks will be reintegrated.
If we keep him isolated, then his value will plummet.

If all spence gets is a couple of league cup games, I think he would be entitled to ask for a premiership loan in january. Surely the plan couldn't be he was to be 4th choice WB? He' s better than that.
Middlesbrough can take part of the blame, in making the xfer so difficult. If that xfer had gone smoothly, perhaps more effort would have been made to trim our other wb options.

The problem is he wasn't a Conte choice and with the manager being a little stubborn with his selections it's going to be hard for Spence to get many games. Which is a shame as I really rate this guy and think he is certainly a better player than either Emerson and Docherty and can cross a ball when going forward, something sadly lacking in Emerson.
