Neville did a brilliant interview and the life he had before 8 is just shocking. I just comprehend it
It was interesting the he mentioned the Jose part and then that he apologise because most will put two and two together
I really hope that after this injury he can get back to form, personally I would have him back

Like many I was on the 'he's lazy' train, and wow.....that's a boy who's been through some things, that any one of which would/could damage someone for a lifetime, let alone all the things that he's been through. A tough watch, but hopefully will go someway to opening peoples eyes as to what a collapse in mental health can lead to. I really hope he gets back to his previous level or somewhere close to it.

I wish him all the best. you can never tell what someone is going through, despite the smiles.
I hope that fans that boo and slate players just stop and think. This shows that there is nearly always something going on behind the scenes that we as fans know nothing about.
Good luck Dele.

As others have said, I dropped everything this morning to watch this, mainly due to the Tottenham connection but also genuine fascination of what could have led to his career going the way it has. Wonderfully brave and more importantly he was so composed and clear with his thoughts, can tell the therapy has really helped and I hope so much this is a real moment for him to move forward professionally but more importantly personally.

Not that it is relevant to anyone but me, but I've been struggling with my own demons over the last few years (completely minor to Dele's story) but finally agreed with my wife last week that I should speak to someone to work through things - seeing vulnerability like this really helps. I've put it off for a long time and think I finally get what people mean in terms of speaking up about therapy experiences and encouraging others to do the same is such an important thing in this day and age.

Tough watch. What a guy.

A lot of love for Dele.

As an aside, away from the bravery of Dele and his appalling treatment, can this also be a moment to consider how we treat players,

I'm not talking about measured criticism etc. But booing your own players in their stadium for instance; I can only imagine the consequences of what some of our fans did do Davinson if he had been in a similar situation to Dele for example.

I totally agree with your sentiment but one look in the Eric Dier thread over the last couple of days shows that a lot of 'fans' don't give a shit that there is an actual person behind the player.

And everyone is guilty of saying similar things to a sports person at some point!!

To see the Dele interview today & then to see this Sun article from 2017....its so infuriating.
People & media twist everything to their selfish needs.

Also fuck the fucking tabloids - right at the start he says he wasn’t ready to give this interview but tabloids have been threatening to leak his rehab story and forced him into doing this when he wasn’t ready.
We've very much lost touch of the concept of other-centeredness as society. I'm pretty guilty myself.

Just goes to show, you shouldn't put too much stock into what happens in these "documentaries".

So true. Working in media, marketing, narrative - I've really had to train myself to not (and I still am at times) be reactive to a headline, story, etc... What were shown is often less than 1 percent of the real story and designed to make us react.

Also feel like it's a good time to say just back the players from our end, I feel like it's the least we can do. You won't like every single one, some might piss you off in a match, but we can't even pretend to know what goes on in their personal lives.

This has made me quite ashamed of some of the things I've said about players/managers/etc. in the past. Incredible stuff, and well done to him for sharing this.

Have recently done the same.

Could be said about any player, any time someone's come on a forum, or twitter and said player X, Y, Z is shit etc...
I'm talking more about the lazy and overweight comments, or calling them donkeys, booing them when their name is read out etc. You can criticise their performances and say they may not be good enough, but there is abuse that goes beyond that.

Nobody has any idea what is going on in their lives or what has gone on in their life in the past. So we need to stop abusing and judging them. Mental health is a serious issue that football fans still do not take seriously enough.
