I would have ripped their arm off when offered it and spent the money on Zaha and AWB. We’d be much better off.

you're dreaming. In four seasons Alli has scored as many as Zaha has in 9 full seasons at United ad Palace. And he's four years younger.

Looks like Dele is fast becoming the latest whipping boy amongst our fans. Personally I believe his lack of form stems from the constant formation changes and his run of injuries. Get back to 4-2-3-1 with him behind Kane and we’ll see the real Dele again.

We should play 4-2-3-1 to get the best out of him. Have him as the second striker, Son wide left, Lo Celso as a false winger drifting in from the right as the primary playmaker with the Winks Ndombele double pivot behind. Something like this consistently for a few weeks could bring about some positivity:

Lloris
Aurier -- CB -- CB -- Davies
Winks Ndombele
------Lo Celso------------Son
Alli ---
Kane

Wow, you people are harsh. One bad game and you guys turn on a player. Dele Alli is world class potential folks and I fully expect him to be back to that European golden boy contender level we saw in his first 2 years. He's got to get back to fitness and get up next to HK and we will see the magic come back. I think it's a foolish idea to give up on him now as he will be a much better player when he comes through all of this. If we can get some rhythm after the next IB I expect him to kick on to the level we all expect and we will look back on this as a blip in an otherwise legendary career.

If someone offered 100M right now DL should hang up the phone as anything under Coutinho's price is a slap in the face for such a young talent. He scored 20 goals a couple years ago folks. Were you watching? The big moments, the big goals!

And lastly, it's good to have access to this 'new' thread as I apparently, selectively, and peculiarly lost access to the other one. Think it was a glitch in the CMS.

I mean, his goal (and assist) record for us is multiple times better than Pogba’s for Utd, but ok... (1 combined fewer in 59 fewer matches).

I said turned into. Dele’s numbers in his first two seasons were excellent.

He has 1 goal and 5 assists in 2019. Pogba has 7 and 6. Pogba has become more influential, Dele has regressed.

He’s still young though and he needs to get over his injury issues and push on. He’s missed half of our games over the past year through injury

I partly think Poch is to blame, I think he said himself we had one of the worlds best second strikers and he decided to drop him deeper which highlighted his weaknesses and also meant his strengths are now under utilised. However there's an argument to say that in order for him to reach his potential he needed to work on those weak areas and we will have to suffer for a while to reap the reward. I also think theres a fair argument to say Dele has lost his singlemindedness towards football and focuses too much on the rewards of being a high paid footballer.

Colchester was not any of these things, it was a terrible and frustrated performance. Id like to see him get an opportunity vs Southampton though.

Yes, 1 bad game and he's suffering the hate for the whole team's efforts. You can't give up on WC talent when it's this young and has such potential to grow and improve. He'll be back in the goals this weekend and this game will be forgotten. You are only as good as your last game so the next one gives him opportunity to erase this one from our memories. This kid scored 20 goals a couple years ago. Twenty goals is a lot and we should remember that...the goals and assists.

Only idiots are giving up on Alli but to say he’s only had 1 poor game in the last 2 seasons is not correct

He has had many and that has coincided with his name change to Dele and his increased media, advertising work

Many of us think he needs to refocus, knuckle down and concentrate on his football

Dele is an instinct player, not a time on the ball player, but we’ve gone from a team that gets him the ball in split second situations to a team that gets him the ball in jigsaw puzzle situations. Lamela is similar,

Dele should learn from Lamela and become that player who always justifies his selection even if it’s mot clicking by being ferocious without the ball. With his innate ability and instinct, he’d end up posting his previous figures without even realising it.

I wouldn’t be throwing around the term ‘world class’ with Dele as personally think he has a lot to do as he’s been a bit iffy for a little while now.

But in no way would I write him off and agree with a lot of the sentiment in here we should be switching back to 4-2-3-1 and putting him central behind Kane. And Dier back in defensive midfield to allow attacking players a bit more freedom.

But he's had injuries and other mitigating circumstances. The hand injury alone killed his second half last season and that was after the hamstring at Fulham. Before that he was looking like the Dele of old and was instrumental over the holidays until Pickford kicked him. And before that he had some niggles but was just as good as anyone suffering the WC malaise.

I think it's a mistake to fault his commercial interests. He's a star player so why shouldn't he capitalize on it? Other players do. And any top team in European football would take him off our hands tomorrow if DL would set a price. Perhaps we could get some ITK from the likes of Trix or Herc on the demand for this player. His creativity at the 10 is exactly what a team like Real could use as they are overly reliant on Benzema bailing them out. But you'd have to assume there are teams out there waiting for us to make the mistake of undervaluing or under-utilizing him.

When our faith wanes all we need to do is look at that CP goal from 3 seasons ago to see the absolute WC talent we have on our hands.

Totally agree. You make some good points and it's hard seeing folks now, conveniently, jump ship on a player that has provided us so much. But in my defense I did say
Dele Alli is world class potential folks
He'll get back to his best and get back in the goals and folks that were previously backing him but now are cowardly claiming he's regressed massively because it's politically expedient will be back on the bandwagon. Form is temporary and we know how long the class in a player like Dele lasts. We just need to support him, Poch needs to get him next to Harry, and we need to get the base of MF sorted. He can still get 15+ this season.

edit: DJS I did say WC talent elsewhere so I guess my defense of myself actually sucked. But I do mean 'potential' as he is not playing to his best right now. but when he gets back to his best, playing on instinct, up near Harry, banging in the goals, we will actually see the WC talent.

Dele's strength is his off-the-ball movement and ability to finish a move. He is better at the end of things than build-up; similar to Lucas Moura.
The problem with our team at the moment is we aren't creating enough; this affects Dele because he doesn't give much else. Until we start moving the ball forward better we can't make use of him.

Spot on. We have too many finishers (Kane Son Moura and Dele) and not enough creators. The onus has been all on Eriksen for a good year or so now. You combine this with full backs who can’t create and we are a shadow of what we were a few seasons ago. This is why it’s so important that we get GLC and Ndombele up to speed as soon as possible.

It's a 1000% the reason but some people just need someone to vent about.
