It is only this season he has started to show his potential (for Burnley). I personally would love to have him here to help develop him.

It's time we get back to snapping up a young, English player for a good price. It's worked out well for several other clubs at our level in this very season.

Anyone whos scored 16 in half a championship season at age 21 is infinitely better than kane/shaq, lets not delude ourselves.

The club has not properly scouted a striker since berba, being the most expensive players in the team to purchase, we really should be spending more time looking at them and picking up guys like him

OK, Ings is not Berba.

Also, looking at him and his playstyle, he appears to be an English version of the ineffective Soldado, though obviously not as good. Why we aren't pursuing someone like Vincent Aboubakar (pacy, 3rd leading goalscorer in Ligue 1) or Jurgen Locadia (had a brace for PSV yesterday iirc) i.e. big, talented strikers who can hold their own and create their own opportunities is beyond me.

Berbatov can (could) create his own opportunities. Aguero can. Suarez can. With their pace and strength, Sturridge and Lukaku can. Giroud, not so much, but he is an excellent team player who creates chances for others.

At the very least, if we aren't going to sign someone who can create his own opportunities, can he at least be big, strong, or fast? This is why I preferred Bony and Negredo to Soldado.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Man I agree with all of this, but damn Bony is shit. Dude doesn't even run or move like an athlete. I'm baffled he's made it to this level.

Yet several thought we had missed out when he went to Swansea.

He's also a few years older than Coulthirst. Let's not write him off already.

At the age of Shaq, Ings scored 3 goals in 15 championship games and had never been involved with the England youth teams. Shaq could easily turn out to be just as good a player, just haven't had the opportunity yet.

Not that I'm against signing players like Ings,
but it's only a good deal if they are at a decent price.
If we pay same price for English talent as we would for a full international then I don't think it's the way to go.
I do think we'll be in for Tom Ince though, who's getting toward the end of his contract and would be a steal.
Ings id pay 3m for as a prospect, if his club want 10 .....

edit - thinking about it I'm not sure Harry Kane's loan at Millwall was any worse than what we see from Ings this season, Kane was two years younger than Ings.
When you consider that Ings is an out and out goal scorer, while Kane is more of a support forward. Kane would definitely be a starter and key player for Millwall if he was theirs

16 goals in 25 appearances this season, but 3 goals in 23 appearances last season, and 3 in 15 the season before.

So this is his breakthrough season I'd suggest.

If we wanted him, I'd suggest that we would need to loan him back for more time in the Championship before trying to get him to play in PL
