Original story in Telegraph. No quotes in Boot Room article.

Telegraph article paywalled so no idea if its credible or wild speculation / journos looking at the SC thread.

JM was backed properly
Except for the central defender he wanted which – apparently didn't want to pay an extra few million which for us as fans is a lot of money, in football speak, it's not – could now be the difference between CL qualification and not. It's what Levy does.

I could laugh my head off. You can believe that a central defender alone could have made the difference between CL qualification?

Might have given us a few more points, possibly draws turned into wins. Most of the season, it was defensive errors that cost us. Who knows. It couldn't have done any harm.

I 100% agree, it wouldnt have done any harm, would have done more good. What I'm disagreeing with is you saying JM wasnt backed properly and then you are indicating the central defender was the missing link which proves he wasnt backed properly and also cost us champions league. Havent you noticed Levy only has one arm as Jose bit the other one off for the job with the personel we had? And then we still strengthened.
