Out of curiosity, would people shift Skipp if an acceptable offer came and we got a replacement e.g Hackney/Gallagher?

He’s reaching the age where he’s not going to improve from what he already is. I don’t agree with all the stick he’s been getting lately, and think he’d be an acceptable squad player to keep around. But…if we can bring in someone more suited to how we play, then yes we should sell him if a good offer comes in. We need to be better at selling youth players before the stagnate like Winks or Tanganga did.

Gallagher in and Hojbjerg out, strengthens us considerably (and helps the HG quota) while weakening Chelsea and boiling oceans of piss amongst their fans at the same time.

I see no down side.

I think a specialist 6 is more important as Bentancur can play the 8 almost as well as Sarr. At least he could prior to the injury.

6 - Bissouma - New 6 - Bentancur
8 - Sarr - Bentancur - Donley
10 - Maddison - Kulu - Donley

That would be the PEH upgrade, see how Devine does or if there are any other academy kids to come in or if we need to purchase a Skipp/GLC upgrade in the summer.
I think this is the key thing to note - Bentancur is just getting back from a very serious injury and it is unclear yet how/if this has impacted particularly on his mobility which is absolutely vital to have in that box to box role. I think we may need to see him as a deep lying playmaker for the foreseeable until he gets up to full fitness so we can assess what he is able to do and not do.

If Pierre and Skipp went in the summer, and we are paying 25 million flat with incentives, then fine.
There is no way we get Gallagher for 25 million unless his contract is almost up. He is a 35-40 million player in today's market, especially when you consider the HG tax.

It depends on the fee, the amount they are wanting is too much for him IMO, it will make us overspend, help them with balancing their books also. So there are downsides also.

I know that. Think he has just under 18 months left. Listen, I will back him if we sign him. My opinion is as is though.

No brainer. Skipp should be moved on before Hojbjerg. If we get another midfielder he’s not getting a sniff the rest of the season.

So we're playing a waiting game hoping Chelsea will cave, I can live with that and wouldn't it just be so sweet if it came off.

If the offer comes and we need to shift a player then I think we just loan Skipp or Hojbjerg

That will just push the problem of too many players again to 6/12 months time.

We need to sell more that won't be around the squad to make room, not just loan out.

Where has the trend for positions to be defined by numbers come from?

It used to just be the 'Number 9' which was a teams top CF.

I'ts very odd.

Your question is a classic 20, but can also fill-in like a 21 or even- if needed- a 22.

it’s a very versatile ask- and Big Ange prizes queries that can be asked anywhere, at any time, all across the site.

But you could also argue Johnson is our only true RW. Yes you could say so is Kulu but then again I think there’s a discussion to be had if he isn’t better as a 10. We have Bentancur, Sarr and Gio who are all natural 8’s plus Skipp and probably Devine will be better as an 8 than a 10 or 6. Essentially we already have depth at 8 so spending 45+ mil on another back up/rotation option 8 doesn’t make as much sense as it would doing the same when we got Johnson.
I think this is where the divide happens, for me Bentancur is a 6, as is Bissouma and Skipp.

To be an 8 in this system you need to be not only be up and down the pitch, you need to be be able to chip in with goals and in the attack.

I have no doubt Bentancur and Skipp can do those roles, but I wouldn't say either is a natural fit.

GLC can play as an 8, and looks to be a good one in Anges system, but let's be honest we can't rely on him.

Which leaves us with 1 natural number 8, Sarr. Hence the need for a Gallagher type player.

Next, from what I've seen of Donley, he's a 9/10. I've never seen him play as an 8, perhaps some youth expert can correct me if I'm wrong. But to me he's the spit of Kane, certainly not an 8.

And finally Devine, he's apparently done quite well on loan at a league one side, but nothing suggests he is ready for us yet. Maybe a Championship loan next season. Also not an 8 (I don't think).

Just to add, I'm not actually a fan of Gallagher and for the prices touted I wouldn't consider it, buy if there is a deal to be made at around 30, I think it would be a decent buy.

Why wouldn’t Benta be able to do it? He scored a fair few goals under conte, has a massive engine etc.
