Yeah this is it for me. He's technically pretty good and comfortable on the ball (he's not Madders or Biss but better than Hojbjerg and Skipp from what I've seen), very hard working, a somewhat dynamic player that's happy to press, will get stuck in and can fill a variety of roles going forward and back. He's your box to box, move the ball forward (whether a pass or dribbling), defend on the front foot so your back 4 don't have to type of midfielder. I can see why Ange would want him and if he really does then the boss has more than earned the backing with the miracles he's done so far. I know Palace fans liked him a lot and Chelsea fans have been a bit hot or cold on him, but Chelsea have been less than stellar and this season he's been one of their best

It's another case of the squad needing lots of upgrades and £40-50m on him? That's a lot of money and surely there're smarter buys elsewhere (Udogie, Sarr, Vic, Biss, Maddison etc) even if he's homegrown. £30-35m would be a good price although Chelsea won't do that
Not sure to be honest, Chelsea, or should I say Boehly, will be desperate to move players on so they can shuffle quickly.

They seem open to selling so they must have targets in mind. And that will need players to be moved on fast.

Having said that Lavia has had an injury relapse so they may be light there

I really think we have to look at him in Anges system and the fact that it seems he is directly wanted by ange. That alone speaks enough volume for me.

However, when I see him in the Sarr role it really seems to fit him like a glove. He plays simple, quickly, and has the motor to get into the box like Sarr has this season. I actually think he'd be better than sarr (at the moment) in the box as shown by his time at Crystal Palace.

We don't have a sarr alternative and look at our form when he was out. For me it's a no brainer and I think CG could be convinced with a phone call with Ange.
I also think it would spell the end for PEH and GLC next summer.

Then next season our options would look like:

Biss/Bentancur/Skipp
Sarr/Gallagher
Maddison/Kulu

We’d then look to sign another wide attacking player so Kulu can cover the n.o8 role if/when needed.

I think we are 3 clever signings away from having seriously good squad for Ange: CB, CM, WF.

Honestly if we got these 3 signings in Jan and were still in touching distance we’d have an outside shot at the title with our other players back and no Europe, but even if not it would set us up nicely for the summer window where we’d only need to sign a couple to be ready for a season to challenge on all fronts.

For me Gallagher would be a great signing, question is would he want to move and would Chelsea let him go or not.

We’d have to rotate a lot next season (if in Europe) to keep Gallagher, biss, sarr, Benta, Madds, Gio all happy,
We’d need to sell skipp, hojberg and likely Gio if the plan is for Kulu to move to 10 rotation too.

Some of the comments in this thread remind me of the comments when we were flying with the front 3 of Kane, Son and Kulusevski. The idea was these guys were so good there was no point buying anyone to realistically challenge them. Then the form of two of them fell of a cliff.

We have some excellent midfielders at the club now. But Sarr is still very young and Bentancur has missed a lot of football through injury- we still don’t know what the impact of that is. Even assuming Bissouma cuts out the silly suspensions, it’s not too long before we are relying on Hojbjerg or Skipp.

Of course there is a limited budget, there are higher priority areas to address. But I don’t think it’s as simple as having a set amount pot of money and spending that set amount. I think the club looks for value in deals which means moving when those deals become available.

As long as there is a long term plan to assemble the squad over a few windows, this approach is fine imo.

Agree, it’s very much a squad game now with the bloated schedule (when in Europe), plus, as Ange alluded to in his pressers this week, having competition for places keeps everyone honest. It may make players think twice before committing stupid challenges and picking up suspensions as they could lose their spots for longer periods if their replacements perform will in their absence.

You can never have too many good players!

Assuming that the 'FFP - they'll listen to offers' story is true and assuming that we're really interested then this has got close to or on deadline day written all over it for me

I think he's a £50-60m player on a long contract. But on 18mths he's more like £35-40m and the minute the window closes he's £30m

Levy will know that he can get a much lower price at the end of Jan than the start and he will wait it out

If we can get £20-25 for PEH from somewhere then it would be stupid not to do this deal as he's a big upgrade with a higher ceiling

Not my first choice, but he is better than Skip at reading the game and closing down the correct lines, after watching skip yesterday, runing around alot for no reason, not closing anyone down, not following his man back and instead just run towards the ball (and always 2 seconds late) i would rather have Conor. Problem is i think he would be Hoibjergs replacement and not Skip :(

The main point of those arguments was the fact that Conte doesn't rotate his attackers and considering Kane started every PL game playing full 90 minutes in 35 of them, Son was struggling with form and injuries and Danjuma still only got 8 minutes in PL under Conte it was absolutely true lol

I think he's a moderate upgrade on PEH or Skipp, no more and no less, so not worth investing the kind of big money that's being spoken about here. Also, he would probably be looking for starting guarantees, which simply won't happen when everyone is fully fit.

I’m not a massive fan of his to be honest. Is he better than PEH and Skipp, yes I would say so, however I wouldn’t rate him anywhere near Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, Kulusevski or Maddison.

Id say he is on par with Lo Celso.
