From before today's match on Sky:

Carlton Cole is keen to be given the opportunity to forge a successful strike partnership with Jermain Defoe for England.

"Jermain and I work really well together because I'm the big man and he's the small striker. He wants to get into the box and avoid the physical stuff up front.

"He wants to get in the box while I like to get stuck in so we do complement each other really well."

Cracking pass for Jermain today, Carlton. I bet Fabio was impressed at the link up play.:clap:

the pass was so measured which made me laugh (after the game - of course because i get so nervous during games!)

Think of the ironing.
If CC could have kept himself sober he'd probably be in the same Tottenham squad as JD.
He gets a wonder strike goal today but should have had at least another from easier chances and with his assist could be our MOTM.

Cole was very impressive today but he just doesn't score enough to be top class imo.

he's got a great eye for a through ball though

Joe Royle on ESPN sees him as a 1 in 5 striker - ie 5 chances for one goal which, in his opinion is not Premiershup standard, let alone England. His play has got better since his young Chelsea days, even Villa, but I would rate Darren Bent as the better player for what Cole brings to the table.

I actually thought Cole was really good yesterday. He is so strong and he gave our defenders some real troubles. Of course we have Ledley so we got away with it, but I can imagine defenders who aren't as good as Ledley (and I don't know any) are going to have real trouble dealing with him if he plays like that. If they had one decent striker to play next to him they would be a far better side.

Just a quick mention for Crouch too, who I thought did an excellent job when he came on. Despite being around for ever, the West Ham defenders didn't seem to know how to handle him. I honestly thought we were going to get a 3rd when he came on and Defoe and Modric playing off him looked dangerous. Was a bold move by Harry but I expect we will be bold this season and so far who can argue with it.

Cole's hold up play and all round ability is better than Bent's imo. Bent is just more clinical in front of goal.

King got done a couple of times by Cole and if that was Bent, we'd have paid for it.

I'm pretty certain he meant 1 goal in every 5 games which isn't good enough at the highest level.

If he was 1 in 5 chances it's highly unlikely he would be at West Ham.
