It took us about 5 years to get rid of him. We should not be bringing him back.
Weird thing to say about an academy player who was out on (very successful) loans for his own development. I don’t really want to buy him but the disrespect in this thread is a little shocking. CCV did nothing at all wrong while he was here and is a great success story for our youth team.

IMO he's a clear improvement on Dier and Sanchez as 4th choice / RCB in a high press possession system.

Thought spot to fill with no Europe to offer.

Who wants to be 4th choice in a 38 game (+ Cups) season?

I imagine our thinking is to go big on a 1st XI LCB, then add a 2nd CB who would be 3rd choice for injuries / rotation for either Romero or the LCB.

Maybe Lenglet or my preference would be Ibanez.

Making the 3rd CB a more attractive role to get a better player and justify better wages if they're covering / competing with both CBs.

Then add a homegrown 4th CB only IF we move on Dier and Sanchez.

On this basis it's a sensible move, and gives us the flexibility to develop and loan out Dorrington and see where he gets to in 2-3 years.
Why would we be looking for a 4th choice? Our defence is bad enough as it is. We need legitimate competition for places and to stop thinking about players who are good cover. We already have plenty of players who are good cover but not good enough to start. I really think this summer we need to focus on first team quality players so there's genuine competition for places.
