This is going to be a wild season.

We’re wide open at the back and clearly a team lacking cohesion with four new starters. Players not totally sure in attacking where they are meant to be. You can’t be annoyed/surprised that we look like a team of strangers (because they are). But the effort/application is clear.

VDV looked good on the recovery and unlucky with the goal. Maddison and Biss both been good. Udogie seemed a bit hesitant and has more gears. Richy has worked hard with scraps.

Need a lot, lot more from Kulu and Son. Both been anonymous, haven’t attacked their full back once and keep laying off the easy ball.

Ange's style of football is going to be crazy all season. Wouldn’t be surprised if we won this 5-2 or lost it 5-2.

The good thing about such risky play is we will (hopefully) get better while opponents will slowly be worn down by the relentless possession as we pushed forward.

I think Postecoglou's system relies on wide forwards who are super quick and can beat a man. Not sure hw Kulu fits that.
He's not electric but we do know that Kulu can beat a man. Just that the Brentford fullback has had him in his pocket all afternoon.

We either sub him for Solomon or Porro or take Skipp off and move him to an 8 and bring one of those on

For those saying Ange needs to rip them one at HT. Personally at this stage I think it would be counterproductive. Ange needs to reaffirm what he wants from them but having a go may just go the other way.

Need to ditch the high line for the second half. Until the back 4 become comfortable with each other it’s suicidal. If it persists in the second half we just need to hope our front 3 wake up and we outscore Brentford
Your want to scrap the system after 45 minutes where we aren't even behind? Stick with the plan. It may take minutes, days, weeks, months but stick with it or there was no point bringing in Ange.

I just dont think Richarlison is the right man for us up front.
I’m pretty worried about the front three. Richarlison isn’t going to score the number of goals we need him to. Son still looks like he hasn’t found the yard of pace he lost last season and Kulu looks completely lost in this system. Would rather have Solomon or someone like Eze starting there.

We’re going to get caught on the counter often this season. I’d be inclined to play a flat 2 DM system when Bentancur is back to protect the CB’s and leave the fullbacks wide so they can cover in behind the CB’s more. It’s very exposed at the back

So many people pissing themselves because it's not perfect on day one, christ. It was always going to take time for such an intensive style of play to become second nature to the players, particularly after the stodgy, plodding style we played with last season.
Not sure that many are ‘pissing themselves’ as you say was always going to take time to get comfortable in this new style.

I'd sub Richy and Kulu for Solomon and Perisic and play Son up front. That would dent Richys confidence, but he offers so little this match.
2nd goal started with richy challenging a free header coming out. his off the ball stuff is very good. take him off 60 or 75 minutes in

Bloody long half that. Could be made better by VAR not taking 3+ minutes on each decision.

Udogie and Bissouma have stood out for me. Maddison has been industrious and at the heart of things. The big worry thus far has been the lack of fluidity in attack. Neither of the wingers seem to be doing more than cutting in and laying it off. Son did start going outside his man towards the end of the half, so the variation there is good. Deki doesn't have a right foot and seems awkward when he does go outside.

Richarlison seems completely out of the game. He's dropping off, but we aren't finding him really. There was one nice move midway through the half where he dropped and combined with Emerson to play the latter through 1v1 with a defender. The move fizzled out but that's the kind of platform we need.

Unfortunately Brentford are a tough nut to crack. They sit deep in that 532 shape and the midfield three shuttle across very quickly. Its crowded in the middle and the ball to the flanks isn't going quick enough to isolate their wingbacks. GLC for Skipp might be an option as we saw under Conte that the space is on either side of the midfield and quick crosses from that half space can cause problems. Then again Brentford half a big, organised back line.
