that implies we could use that 16m and sign someone that would improve the 1st team but unless we get lucky with a dele alli type punt on some kid or a player running down his contract(wanyama) then that's clearly not the case.
this move is a mistake if it goes through. nabil is the cm equivalent of danny rose a few years ago, a player with a perceived heightened opinion of himself but one with all the tools to become very, very good. like rose he is still young and has a couple of flaws but they shouldn't be used to define him, there's no reason he can't work on them and eradicate them from his game. spurs fans always say we need to look for a long term dembele replacement and here we are virtually giving one away(i'm sorry but 16m in this market is nothing for a 22yo with nabil's talent). although, unlike dembele he isn't petrified of the opposition's goal, four goals and four assists in half a season for him so far compared to dembele's zero.
That's a bit of an unfair comparison though considering they are playing in different leagues. Bentaleb never scored for us in 46 league games.that implies we could use that 16m and sign someone that would improve the 1st team but unless we get lucky with a dele alli type punt on some kid or a player running down his contract(wanyama) then that's clearly not the case.

If he backs away from Schalke and Utd want him Martial becomes interesting, no?
From the few matches I have seen, including when he has scored, he has had good but not brilliant games. He concedes a lot in transmission. In all honesty, if he was not 'one of our own' and we were linked to him, I do not think we would be going with the hype to sign him.I can't escape the feeling we're making a huge mistake letting this guy walk out the door just like that...

Really don't understand how it didn't work out for him here. 16 million isn't a lot for a young gifted CM.
One can only assume it was attitude, although he never played like he lacked character and would have thought Poch could have worked on him.
Would struggle to sign better for that sort of cash.
Didn't he do an interview saying he wants to be paid the same amount as the top earners at the club?
Think his attitude and ego were very poor
'Countless' lol. Absolute myth. Every player makes 'unforced errors' but people act like he cost us a goal every game.Do people really think he has more potential than Winks? The guy clearly has an attitude problem and has rubbed MoPo up the wrong way in the past. Is everyone forgetting that?
He's capabable of making blunder after blunder, and no, it's not just one against Man Utd, a couple of seasons ago, and a preseason friendly against Real Madrid. He's made unforced errors countless times in games for Spurs. Yes he could improve, but by all accounts, he's been hit and miss for Shalke too.
