Because the player is a free agent? It’s clickbait

We can't "replace Kane" because we aren't in La Liga. It has different rules for emergency signings.
Exactly. It even says that in the very first line of the article. I love it when people get outraged by something they haven't even bothered to read the first line of.

Actually they are able to buy anyone currently playing in Spain - doesn't have to be a player out of contract. It does seem rather unfair, though, as if they buy someone from a club, that club can't then turn around and buy someone else.

It's a very odd one. Essentially a Spanish club has to 'deregister' the injured player, who must be estimated to be out of action for at least five months. That player can no longer take part in their club's season regardless of whether they recover before the end of the season.

It's odd because, ultimately, squad management is part of modern football. If you suffer injuries, that's unfortunate, but it's part of the game.

Also, any player they bring in can't play for them in the CL because they won't have been registered, but they'll still have to field a team.

As I say, odd.

OK you got me - I saw it being discussed on the tv and searched for a news item and posted it - I wasn't outraged, just posted to start a discussion, all the stuff about length of injury, Spanish rules, playing at another Spanish club and free agent in the summer was all on the tv.

No-one will sell to them and deliberately weaken themselves for the rest of the season, unless it's for a completely ridiculous amount of money. Barca aren't going to get a tier 1 player...

But players in Spain have got release clauses so they can basically pick who they want if they don't mind spending. It's a strange system. Barca can buy a new player to replace the injured guy, but the team that lose their player to Barca won't be able to replace them as you can only replace injured players.

Sorry mate, I didnt need to be quite as condescending as I came across. As you say it's definitely worth a discussion. Especially as someone said earlier how the selling club don't have any right to replace the player. That seems a bit shit to me

Without knowing how often this rule has been used it really looks like it's designed for the benefit of the big two.

It's mental that La Liga have allowed this. Barca have signed relegation battling Leganes top scoring striker because they met his £15m release clause. They have also told Leganes they cannot sign a replacement either.
