@thespursforum emailed Jonathan Barnett. Very encouraging response

http://theboyhotspur.com/?p=2266

Clearly Barnett realises he’s made a fist of this. Spurs fans are extremely active online. Suddenly his name and that of his client are headlining and trending. And not in good way. Levy & Co must wonder why such dialogues are taking place, when the player has several years to run on his contract. And they have a point. Is the agent whoring, or is he not whoring? And if he isn’t whoring, then what is it that he is doing?
@SpursNewsForum being bright, emailed Jonathan Barnett direct, in an effort to get to the truth of the matter:
@SpursNewsForum: Just trying to confirm these quotes from the Marca interview are attributed to you? Any comment on the matter?
JB: Yes I gave the interview which I hope you read the whole interview
@SpursNewsForum: Thank you for your speedy response. I haven’t read the whole interview. I must admit at first glance it didn’t seem great reading for Spurs fans, then again we know how Marca can twist people’s words.

JB:Words completely out of context.i [sic] also said we have not spoken to anyone and that gareth [sic] is a spurs player.
@SpursNewsForum: Finally, a possibility Gareth could still sign a contract extension at Spurs?

JB: Yes its [sic] a possibility.
@SpursNewsForum: Thank you for all of this Jonathan.

JB: Pleasure just don’t kill the agent.we are not so bad.
@SpursNewsForum: It’s not that I have anything against agents in general, but we have had agents disrespect the club and it’s fans before.

JB: I have never done that and my record proves that.spurs fans should recognise that and give me some credit
@SpursNewsForum: I understand. Unfortunately the media have a tendency to ignore facts and run with the biggest story.
JB: Thank you. Please let the fans know that

DL is no mug...he will give Bale a massive pay rise because he knows he will recoup it, look at the money table,we sit 4th because we were on tv nearly every week, mainly because of Bale, next season we all know the tv money is even bigger, so Bale's pay rise will be covered by us being on sky more by keeping Bale, plus we will get to keep a monster of a player ...its a no brainer to pay Bale shitloads.
On Bales's side, his agent hears Levy saying no to 50/60m...so he is saying to DL ''ok you rate him as one of the top players in the world, then pay him accordingly''...shock horror an agent trying to get a great deal for a player wanted by all the top clubs.

Bale will stay this year, he will get nearly 200,000 a week, he will fuck off next year if we don't kick on big time this season.

love the way they come out and suggest "we are only prepared to pay £45m".

Well, sod off then - you obviously can't afford him.

Tap up another player - preferably someone who's in your price range.

Completely the opposite to suarez's agent who has come out and said the striker is happy to stay at Liverpool.
We have a happy player with an agent stoking the coals.

I am amazed by the number of fans (not necessarily on here) who keep saying its worth selling Bale if we get x amount of money and buy x players. It's such nonsense. Where do people get it from? The cash doesn't go in our bank accounts so who cares what price we get? Bale is the third best player in the world, arguably the best to ever play for Tottenham and so good that he could win the title if given the right support. Why do we always have to go two steps backward to go one forward. I want to see top footballers at Tottenham, not dozens of decent players-we pay enough for the privilege. I really thought DL would not consider selling because of the uproar from fans but it doesn't appear there is likely to be much. I feel in a minority in that I think selling Bale now would be an utter disaster.

Completley agree, good post. Didn't mean to push dislike, sorry, fingers and thumbs.

you are not in the minority at all, what message woudl it send to other players ( potential signings and current ) if we continue to sell our best players.

if Levy is serious about wanting us to compete then we need to bring in players to compliment Bale

Spot on.

Bale is priceless in respect to the fact that we simply cannot replace him. Bale is the sort of player we could only ever dream of attracting /buying.. If we sell him we wont see a player as good at the Lane for a generation.

Notwithstanding everything he represents in terms of ambition, marketability and prestige to the club. It would be ridiculous to suggest that we would be better off cashing in.. fucking ridiculous.

If they have agreed a deal with Suarez (which, if they haven't spoken to Liverpool is a little bit illegal) then why don't they just match his release clause? Presumably they're being a bit stingy and wanting to get the fee down.
