I make him right... apart from the difficult to change thing. It would be very easy for ex-professionals to get into running the game. But the usual attitude from your average footballer, upon retirement, is to either go into punditry, coaching or just put the feet up. If players actually went into the game's infrastructure after their career, or pushed more through the PFA, then I think things would change.

Seems like a dig at Levy in some parts and what I always believed that he was pissed off with the organisation of an Australian tour.
Seems like you really want it to be a dig at Levy, when in reality it's really not....none of the players who played at the euros even went to Australia.
He's clearly talking about the scheduling of international tournaments.

His English is excellent now. Needs to double check the odd phrase or word on the odd occasion but mostly he's very confident in speaking in English. Most of his answers on this topic were in a couple of minute blocks. He was very passionate about it.

I rather hope that in ten years time or so international football will have become essentially a showpiece for kids. The Euros or the World Cup is a moderately entertaining diversion, but knackering out the best club players in a badly-managed team is absurd. And patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

International football still the pinnacle of the game for me, nothing raises the hopes of a nation more than the national team doing well

You know what hope does.
Winning the World Cup in 66
set us back years through arrogant complacency.
Nothing changed and largely still hasn't.
See appointment of Roy Hodgson.

On Pochettino's main point ref scheduling this certainly needs looked at.

League's should start a month later after an international tournament and all Cup games that season should be played midweek without replays

I would disagree and if anything, how happy would the nation be if England won the World Cup or European Championship.

I agree with everything he said but what do people want changed? If we started the season a month later we would have to play the 5/6 games in that period as midweek fixtures throughout the season and people would moan about that just as much.

Aren't 4 weekends reserved for FA Cup games, and what about rescheduling or even cancelling meaningless international friendlies.

Only international games allowed should be competitive

Proof of what exactly

What has a 2012 study on the state of the German psyche got to do with it

Just that the German national football team has been fairly successful, and performed particularly well in the last decade over Low, but their countrymen remain riddled with gloom and weltschmerz - a concept for which chipper Englishmen don't even have a word.

So the impact of international success on the cheer of a nation seems marginal. It wasn't a very serious riposte, to be honest.

That's probably more down to the collective mind-set that's prevailed for generations at the FA than it is to 1966. The 'don't rock the boat' attitude would still have been there, World Cup win or no World Cup win.

They have actually got rid of pretty much all friendlies now, and replaced them with the UEFA Nations League.

Unfortunately it doesn't mean fewer matches though :/
