The one attacking player I thought most likely to make the transition from academy to first team.

Pace, control, 2 footed, daring and a goal threat, lashing them in from distance. It would be surprising to let that go. A few things there that Lennon lacks.

He doesn't pass the ball when he should in attacking positions. Neither does Bale.

Spurs make few mistakes, if ever, in letting young players go. This might be one.

I'd argue it would be our second mistake this window after Caulker!

Is it a mistake to let players go who want to move for more playing time? I don't think either were pushed out the door but lets face it, both are third/fourth choice in their positions and haven't fully developed as players. They are over 21 now and aren't youth players anymore, they need consistent playing time to fulfill their potential and frankly it would be rather dickish of us to tell them they have to ride the bench and watch Gareth Bale and Jan Vertonghen all year instead of going out and making their own way.

I just really rated caulker, huge potential and already at a decent level. Future England first choice CB if you ask me.

But he's also going to be behind Kaboul and Vertonghen in our central defence pecking order for at least a year or two. That potential isn't going to be fulfilled by sitting on our bench most weeks.

I'll be devastated if we sell Townsend.

  1. We sent him on loan last year to a Premier League club, and despite only being there for six months he was their player of the year. What more can you ask for?
  2. He's an academy graduate. I like AVB, I really do, but I don't like the fact that we're clearing the decks and ousting all our British players.

I said about townsend last week and it does not look any more positive this week sadly.

It seeems to me like a scatter gun approach to buying and selling but this is the last time we can do it. I feel quite sad we are losing the english core but accept just like when arnesen came in we are building a squad capable of challenging. The players we are linked with scream of a title challenge rather than just top 4.

I honestly have no idea why we would consider selling Townsend when he has shown for both QPR and us in pre-season, he can score goals! We cannot be too reliant on 1 player e.g. Bale last year and probably to an extent Soldado this year.

I understand if he has to be sold to buy other top players, but imo this would be a huge shame to sell him!

The way I see it he has a choice. Stay and try and fight his way into the team ahead of whoever gets brought in to play on the wing or look for a move somewhere where he'll be a regular starter. If he feels his career would benefit from regular games (and his loan spell at QPR backs that up) then he leaves. Just like Caulker did in fact.

I'm not bothered either way to be honest. I think the lad has potential but he's still a long way from being good enough to play for a top 4 PL side so if he stays and improves then we have another option in attack. If he goes then fine, we move on with the better players we already have.

What will be interesting is where he ends up as I suspect that it will be at a lower end premiership team, which is probably his level right now.

If Townsend were to go somewhere, I'd like to see him go to Norwich City. I think Townsend, Redmond and RVW could form a good attacking trio.

:( I really like Andros.

But I understand that after the many loans and uncertainty he wants to settle down and start week in week out. So if he wants to go I can't blame him.

I want a buy back clause and near £10 million for him. QPR can fuck off if they want him for under £5 million; we can find someone who will be willing to pay our price.

Agreed. He's probably sick of loans but I'd rather he get another Premiership loan this year, learn how to be a team player and come back ready to take Lennon's spot. I still like Lennon but I do think it's his last year with us.

That would be good but their defence is still one or two players away from being a strong outfit

Yeah, I totally agree. I just think that'd be a good level for him to prove himself at and those two other players with him in attack would be fun to watch and could win a point from some of our rivals (shit, probably even us too).

If he wants to leave I dont see why we shouldnt loan him out on a season long loan or sell with a buy back option but signing Ince to replace is a joke as he isnt going to make us title challengers, so i expect him to go if a lamela or Willain comes in

Also he has always been a lennon replacement imo and when we do move him on we will need him

I think we enquire Ince bec of Townsend... but it does not makes sense if we sell Townsend for 8m and use the money for Ince.

We use it for Eriksen I reckon
