I couldn't give a flying fuck about the signing of some League One 18 year old. The vast majority of these signings turn out to be about as successful as John Bostock.

That's not a given in every case and perhaps this one will turn out to be different.
Concerned? No: Interested? Yes.
Speculate to accumulate.

Members of the forum (and others, I suppose) who believe the idea of discussion forums is for them to state their opinions or attitudes, no matter how illogical or idiotic, and then whinge when their opinions and attitudes are involved in a debate and pulled apart by logical argument and shown to be illogical, irrational or just plain idiotic. If you want to state your opinions and attitudes and then have then stand alone and unquestioned write a bloody blog with responses disabled! LoL

A bugbear of mine stated many times over the years. And check out who gives all the negs and who doesn't - get a good idea of folk's debating abilities that way, too.

Isn't the whole point of this thread meant to avoid all of that?

As for Bale - it was obvious from day one that he was going to be a star. Even disregarding his performances for Southampton it's a pretty good indication when you have a manager like Ferguson desperate for his signature.

Not to Harry it wasn't, nearly sold him to Birmingham city.

?Que¿

I was stating an unpopular opinion [sic.] about every thread on SC other than the unpopular opinions thread, in the unpopular opinions thread.
The clues are in the text:
Members of the forum - if I was specifying this thread I would have said posts in this thread (y)

A bugbear of mine stated several times over the years - but the thread has only been in existence for seven months (give or take). So, I wouldn't have stated several times over the years a critique of folk who react badly to having their opinions challenged in a thread that didn't yet exist (I'm good, but I'm not that good :) ). And this should have strengthened the above, that I was talking about the forum at large and not just the posts in this thread (y)

So, in a thread were unpopular opinions aren't supposed to be challenged, you have challenged my unpopular opinion because you erroneously deduced that my unpopular opinion wasn't an unpopular opinion in the unpopular opinions thread but a critique of the unpopular opinions in the unpopular opinions thread. Twernt...GOSH :coffee:

Re Gareth Bale: It was a joke, hence the smileys - leastways, not something meant to be taken wholly seriously. This isn't really the place for the debate, but Bostock was being linked with the likes of Barcelona at the time, hence Orange Day-Glo Jordan wanting about £5 million for him, and was generally considered in footballing circles as pretty much on a par as a prospect as Bale. You may have thought he was always going to be a great, and I did too, but there were plenty on here anted rid during the curse of Bale. During that period, as part of that debate, I quoted Robbie Keane who said that Bale would go on to be the best player in the World - the general reaction on here to that claim was laughter ;)

Take a chill-pill, Blud

Our Eriksen song is shit.

Actually, it's not shit, we just sing it way to fast to the point where nobody sings the middle bit. All you can hear is the EERRRIIIIIIIKKK-SEN-SEN-SEN bit at the start (which is cool) but then it's just a load of mumbling until it gets back to the start.

If we slowed the middle bit right down it'd be much better but we're not the greatest club at coming up with songs are we.
Yep. I think it's just that a lot of people don't know the words. I also think that if we slowed down "we are Tottenham, super Tottenham..." to more like Rod Stewart speed it would sound a lot better/more atmospheric.

Apparantly it was obvious to Rio Ferdinand that Spurs had signed a future England captain and mainstay of the team when we signed Bostock.

Young players develop at different rates - and sometimes do not (in the case of Boistock) or do in the case of Bale, once he had changed from being a LB to a freescoring forward via being a LW. So the player we sold was very different (positionally as well as skillwise) to the player we bought

After all that time when he wasn't playing or on a losing side, you still knew he was going to be a superstar? Nice one. I certainly didn't think that.

Well I'm sure nobody thought he'd become a superstar, but he was impressive at Southampton, then turned up at Spurs and smashed in that free-kick against the Gooners. Before he wasn't playing and before the whole 'Bale curse' rubbish I remember him scoring two good goals away to Fulham as well.

Just seemed to me like he was going to become a star player. Never doubted that he'd break into the team and be a key player, but I certainly didn't think he'd reach the level he did.

Jesus bloody Christ....ineffectual!! He's the top scoring midfielder in the whole league. He's single-handedly clawed us points from the last minute of games repeatedly and got us to Wembley. I'm not quite sure what else you want but last time I checked we didn't have the pick of the most lethal free-scoring midfielders on the planet so I'm very happy to make-do with Eriksen for now.

That said I'll be really disappointed if Levy doesn't sign Pogba, Bale and Reus this Jan and will be calling for his bald head if he disappoints us again.

Totally superficial post. I said he goes missing during a lot of games, and you interpret that as if I'm saying he's always ineffectual. Did you miss the part where I highlighted all his strengths?

and not even that is the extent of your superficiality. Did I not make it clear enough that the alternatives I suggested were off-hand examples? I'm not saying we should sign guys like Modric, I'm saying we should target players of similar ilk & play-style.
